Anne-Sophie Mutter, violin and conductor; Trondheim Soloists [BACH]
TRACK LISTING BACH: Concerto for Violin, Strings and Continuo in A minor, BWV 1041 Anne-Sophie Mutter's first Bach recording for DG couples his Concertos BWV 1041 and BWV 1042 with the world-premiere recording of the Concerto commissioned by her from Sofia Gubaidulina, the Russian composer who regards Bach as her greatest source of inspiration. Mutter gave the premiere performance of Gubaidulina's Concerto at the 2007 Lucerne Festival and will record the work with the London Symphony Orchestra and Valery Gergiev at the beginning of 2008. For the Bach Concertos Mutter reunites with the Trondheim Soloists, with whom she recorded the Vivaldi Four Seasons album that has sold more than 350,000 units. The combination of Bach and Gubaidulina will appeal to lovers of Bach and instrumental music in general as well as to listeners interested in discovering something new. It also offers a unique marketing angle for the specialist music press as a follow-up to Mutter’s 2006 Mozart project. A TV documentary which explains the process of this creation has been made. It features interviews with Anne-Sophie Mutter and Sofia Gubaidulina, footage of the rehearsals and of the world premiere in Lucerne. The TV production is a co production of Pars media, Swiss T'V and ZDF, in collaboration with Arte, NRK, RTV, Sky arts, VRT and YLE. |

Magdalena Kozená, mezzo-soprano
TRACK LISTING TRADITIONAL: Kebych bola jahodú
Magdalena Kozená, one of the most acclaimed recitalists of today, presents a personal collection of songs she has known since childhood and that form some of her earliest musical influences. A haunting collection of songs by Czech composers such as Dvorák, Janácek, Martin?, Schulhoff and Eben, all deeply rooted in the rich Czech folk song tradition. Like Magdalena explains in the press/booklet text about the songs on the album: “They are just the sort a mother would sing to her baby. My mother is not a professional singer, but she loved to sing and knew a lot of songs! There is a particular tradition of singing to children in our country, much stronger, I would say, than one sees any more in the West. It was really important that in each family these songs would be handed down, taught to the children.” Kozená’s musical partners on the album include her long-standing recital partner Malcolm Martineau, and soprano Dorothea Röschmann, who joins her in Dvorák’s Moravian duets. Magdalena Kozená’s most personal album so far, exploring the richness of her cultural background and her own musical memories. |
