Romantic memories... In one of his greatest specials we meet André Rieu as a Romantic par excellence. In 'Romance' he takes his viewers to see the most beautiful spots he has ever played in, each more romantic than the last: Vienna, Venice, Paris, Tuscany and of course Limburg, the beautiful area of André's birth in the Netherlands. We see the most moving moments from his musical career and we witness how touched André is when he comes home after years of concert tours to find a rapturous welcome in his own country. Together with his Johann Strauss Orchestra and the sopranos Suzan Erens, Carla Maffioletti and Carmen Monarcha, André Rieu plays sensitive melodies such as the Lagoon Waltz, My heart will go on, Sous le ciel de Paris, The last rose and the world-famous Serenade by Toselli. 'Romance' from André Rieu stands for pure enjoyment. This is romance at the highest level!

The DVD will be advertised on ABC-TV and the whole program will screen on the Ovation channel as part of the ANDRÉ RIEU WEEK, on Friday 21 September at 9pm (repeated on Saturday 22 September at 3am, 9am and 3pm).

ANDRÉ RIEU | André Rieu on His Way to New York

With exciting stories about the real life that goes on behind the scenes, this DVD gives a colourful impression of the months of preparation that are going into the concert in New York. Every aspect is covered - the travelling, the fun times on the way, but also the sadness and emotions. What is really involved in organising a concert like this? What does the orchestra eat? Where do they stay? What does André do in the daytime? Do the soloists like going shopping? Or do they prefer to surf the Internet? There are lots of long interviews with André himself, about his work, his private life and his plans for the future. There are interviews with his son Pierre and with orchestra players, soloists, the cook, fans etc. etc. This roadshow was broadcast on Dutch TV in a series of six programmes - and will premiere on the Ovation channel from Monday 17 - Saturday 22 September, two episodes per day, each starting at 8.30pm (repeated a further three times in six hour cycles). Following popular demand, these have now been put together in the DVD 'André Rieu on his way to New York'

Overture on Hebrew Themes

A delightful DVD of Prokofiev's universally beloved 'musical tale', brought to life by human actors in a fairytale world inhabited by Muppet-like puppets. It was devised by Claudio Abbado, Christoph Schwann, Roger Law and The Spitting Image Workshop.

Pop star Sting lends his voice to a Sting puppet for the witty, enlightening commentary that guides the viewer through this charming suite. Also included is the Italian version with commentary by Oscar-Award-winner Roberto Benigni (Life is beautiful), acted out by a Benigni puppet. For Maestro Claudio Abbado, who can also be seen in the film, this project has been a labour of love - his lively reading of the score is recorded with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

Also included are Prokofiev's 'Classical' Symphony and Overture on Hebrew Themes

A blithe, thoughtful, and visually compelling approach to these popular works - a wonderful treat for young audiences and adults alike.

VERDI: La Traviata

Giuseppe Verdi's immortal opera in a sumptuous production by Franco Zeffirelli and with world famous singers Teresa Stratas and Placido Domingo - a treat for viewers everywhere.

Acclaimed film and stage director Franco Zeffirelli spared no costs to reproduce the opulent setting of Violetta Valéry´s happiness and downfall. The unparalleled musical quality of the production is guaranteed by some of the world´s most famous musicians: The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra of New York, conductor James Levine and singers Teresa Stratas and Placido Domingo.

As Violetta, soprano Teresa Stratas strikes the right balance between emotional grandeur and physical weakness. And with his meltingly lyrical voice and magnetic stage presence, Placido Domingo embodies Alfredo Germont with a rarely seen passion.

'Dazzling...a triumph...not to be missed.' New York Times

'Stratas not only sings magnificently but also looks the role. With her large, dark doe-eyes, elegant cheekbones and small, slight figure that seems to have the strength of someone possessed, which Violetta is, Stratas is a screen presence as riveting to watch as to listen to...an acting performance of breathtaking intensity...Having cast the film very close to perfection, Zeffirelli has staged it in a way that serves both the film and the grandeur of the score.' New York Times
