These four releases are a welcome return to the familiar capboxes of the Collectors Edition, with the focus this year on Mozart.

The Hagen Quartett's recording of the String Quartets has already been issued; now come four boxes devoted to the Symphonies, Piano Concertos, Wind Concertos and Piano Sonatas.

These are all acclaimed cycles of recordings with Karl Böhm, Maria Joao Pires and   Rudolf Serkin with Claudio Abbado.

'A stylist and fine Mozartian' (Penguin Guide), Maria Joao Pires is at her best in these highly recommended recordings. Refined, full of passion but with plenty of classical poise.'

The 6-CD collection is offered at budget price for the first time (previously only available at top)

Rudolf Serkin's famous partnership with Claudio Abbado in the 1980s resulted in some marvellous recordings of classical, magisterial Mozart. Not a complete cycle, the 7-CD set offers an excellent selection of the most famous Mozart concertos, and is brought together now, offered at budget price for the first time.

His integrity and musicianship were among the wonders of 20th-century re-creative artistry. If Serkin, the soloist, claims most of one's attention in this broad selection of the great Mozart concertos, 'Abbado's excellence, and the LSO's, are nicely reflected by the flawless balances and the quality of sound.' The Gramophone.

This is the first release of Rudolf Serkin's DG Mozart as an integral set.

'Perhaps the special attraction of the recordings ...lies in the combination of two such powerful personalities.' (K.271, 453) The Gramophone

Now they are brought together with the addition of a selection of Serenades and Divertimenti played by distinguished Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic wind soloists, making a new, attractive and comprehensive set.

'The playing of the Berlin Philharmonic wind under Karl Böhm shows impeccable refinement.' (K. 361, 388) The Penguin Guide

Karl Böhm's Symphonies cycle has long been in the catalogue in a bulky multipack set. Now it makes a welcome reappearance in a slim capbox.

Squeezing Symphonies Nos. 1 - 41 into a 10-CD set is an achievement in itself and makes the box competitive already.

All the earlier symphonies were recorded in intensive sessions in March and November 1968, 'a real voyage of discovery, with performances warm and genial, with bold contrasts of dynamic and well-sprung rhythms.' Penguin Guide

'An excellent bargain, and not just for the historical specialist, but for all Mozartians.' Penguin Guide

Benchmark recordings of 24 works by a master of soundscapes, who stretched the boundaries of the musically conceivable.

The music of György Ligeti (1923-2006) is 'among the most innovative of the last half of the 20th century. Sometimes eerie, sometimes humorous, usually fantastical and always polished' (Paul Griffiths).

In this generous tribute, 24 works, dating from 1948 to 1993, are performed by musicians who consistently championed his art. DG has benchmark recordings of over 20 of his works, whose composition dates stretch from 1948 to 1993, so we can offer a convincing overview of his music.

This compilation includes two pieces used in 2001: A Space Odyssey and an award-winning collection of concertos under Boulez.

Most are currently available at high price (2 in 20/21 echo).

Performances by artists including Boulez, Abbado, Hagen Quartet, LaSalle Quartet, Kontarsky brothers, Matt Haimowitz, Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Saschka Gavriloff

Supplemented by ca. 30' Decca material

When Ernest Ansermet passed on, the search was on for another conductor who had the grace, elegance and élan of the Swiss conductor. Charles Dutoit was Decca's man. His building of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra is fabled and together with them - as well as other orchestras - he remains one of the cornerstones of Decca's catalogue. Now, on his 70 th birthday, Decca pays tribute with a 6CD set, bringing back many items long unavailable and providing a delightful bonus DVD of Prokofiev. Dutoit and the Sydney Symphony have several performances in November/December.
