"Ray Charles and Count Basie were two of the most charismatic personalities I've ever known. I loved them both. So to hear this amazing collaboration of their musical geniuses is a treat of the highest order. When 21st century technology and timeless soul come together, watch out! This one is for the ages ."   --- Quincy Jones

Following on from the amazing success of Genius Loves Company comes Ray Sings, Basie Swings (Genius 2).   This release combines archival, never-before-heard Ray Charles vocal recordings with brand-new performances by the Count Basie Orchestra. This ground breaking CD gives listeners the unprecedented experience of hearing Ray Charles at the dazzling peak of his vocal prowess. Ray Sings, Basie Swings was created with the most up-to-date recording and mixing technology, offering sound quality that is state-of-the art.

For Concord and Starbucks, "Ray Sings, Basie Swings" (Genius 2) reprises their multi-Grammy-winning collaboration on "Genius Loves Company," which was released shortly after Charles' death, just before the release of Taylor Hackford's biographical feature "Ray." The duets collection has sold about 3.2 million to date.

A Project Summary....

The producers of this CD discovered archival reels of Ray Charles and the Count Basie Orchestra performing live together in 1973. Although the vocals were superior, the remaining elements were of extremely poor quality. They decided to bring the current Basie Orchestra into the studio and, using the latest technology, they carefully and painstakingly laid down a new instrumental backdrop for Charles' towering vocals.   The end result is beautiful, authentic and irreplaceable piece of music.

Joe Adams, Charles' longtime manager, describes the discovery of the lost tapes as "extraordinary," adding, "Ray had such tremendous respect for Basie and often expressed a desire to work with him on a recording project. Now through the miracles of technology, we are able to fulfill one of Ray's unfulfilled dreams. His vocal performance here is one of the best I have ever heard." Indeed, Ray Sings, Basie Swings features superb renderings of such classics as "Georgia on My Mind," "I Can't Stop Loving You," "Busted," "How Long Has This Been Going On?," "Let the Good Times Roll," "Crying Time," "Feel So Bad," "Look What They've Done to My Song," "The Long and Winding Road," the set opener "Oh, What A Beautiful Morning," and "Every Saturday Night" a long-time concert favorite never- before-released on record.

Matt Dusk is a velvet-voiced 24 year-old, Canadian who is set to sing his way to international stardom. Two Shots, his Decca debut takes elements of the 'rat pack' era (great vocals, style, sophistication) and gives this classic genre a 21st century spin, with state of the art production and unique new material providing a contemporary sound with a nostalgic twist.

Two Shots principally features original compositions but also includes an original ballad-esque treatment of the Beatles classic Please, Please Me and Two Shots , a number penned by Bono in honour of Frank Sinatra (a classic-style saloon song, it was presented to Sinatra on his 80th birthday).

Though it has taken three decades, the pairing of singer/guitarist/songwriter George Benson teams with vocalist extraordinaire /songwriter Al Jarreau - peerless music legends who both sprang from jazz into the international R&B and pop mainstream - was pure destiny.

Both have earned multiple Gold and Platinum albums, totalling millions of copies sold, along with coveted GRAMMY® awards in both the pop and jazz categories.

Painstakingly prepared by Benson and Jarreau, Givin' It Up touches on every style and mood fans could imagine from this stellar event of musical matchmaking.

Givin' It Up crackles with inventive covers of standards ranging from the 1940s (Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child"); the 1960s (Sam Cooke's "Bring it on Home to Me" featuring a surprise cameo by pop legend Paul McCartney); the 1970s (Seals & Crofts' "Summer Breeze"); and the 1980s (Daryl Hall's "Everytime You Go Away"). They also show respect for the music of today, inviting neo soul diva Jill Scott to sing along on "God Bless the Child," and turning in a sumptuous instrumental rendition of singer/songwriter John Legend's "Ordinary People" (the 2005 GRAMMY winner for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance) with Marion Meadows on soprano sax.

Givin' It Up also features sizzling jazz jams on two Miles Davis classics: the classy swing of "Four," with lyrics by the great Jon Hendricks and featuring Stanley Clarke on upright bass; and the lowdown blues of "Tutu," rewritten as "Resurrection Blues" by Jarreau and set to Marcus Miller's dynamic original music (a homage to Bishop Desmond Tutu), featuring Miller himself on electric bass and special guest Herbie Hancock in scorching form on acoustic piano. "What I played on my solo were some new things I've been practicing but didn't know where I was going to use them, says Benson. And Herbie's solo is outstanding!"
