Flamboyant French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet is renowned for is showmanship, dazzling technique and poetic performances of the music of Ravel, Debussy and even Duke Ellington. Ravel's Piano Concerto for the Left Hand is powerful and profound, a veritable tour de force. Where Ravel's concerto is suspenseful, Liszt's Totentanz is spooky: a virtuoso danse macabre with a dash of wit. Both works will amply display Thibaudet's precision and devil-may-care verve.
To close, the renowned Charles Dutoit conducts Rachmaninov's moody Symphonic Dances; three spectacular movements inspired by the drama and delirium of the dance.
