Rachmaninov's music is beloved for its intense lyricism, dazzling virtuosity, pure emotion and dark glamour. Rachmaninov's First Piano Concerto is his official Opus One, the work with which he announced his brilliance to the world at the age of 18. The young Australian pianist Alexey Yemtsov was discovered by Vladimir Ashkenazy on his last visit and now they join to present this virtuoso showcase.
Rachmaninov surveys nothing less than the totality of human existence from cradle to grave in his massive work for choir, soloists and orchestra, The Bells. Acclaimed soloists and the brilliant Ashkenazy bring Rachmaninov's masterpiece to resonant life.
