This autumn Yundi Li, 'the poetic player with a sensitive touch' (New York Times), releases a new recital CD from Vienna. The Vienna Recital was recorded in the renowned Musikverein, which boasts a rich legacy of performers including Liszt, Rachmaninov and Vladimir Horowitz.

Yundi Li has thus far proved his recording merits with the Romantic repertoire, and while his new CD features one Liszt composition, Rhapsodie espagnole , it also demonstrates the breadth of Li's artistic range as he explores new musical terrain: Schumann's Carnaval, two Scarlatti Sonatas and - just in time for the Mozart Year 2006 - Mozart's Sonata KV 330.

Ever since winning first prize at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1960, Italian pianist Maurizio Pollini has been considered one of the world's finest Chopin interpreters. Along with Chopin's two piano concertos, Pollini has recorded many other compositions by the Romantic composer, all for DG: Complete Études and Préludes, Scherzi, Polonaises, Sonatas Nos. 2 and 3. The most recent Chopin disc, released in 1999, included the four Ballads, the Fantasia op. 49 and the Prélude in C sharp minor op. 45.

Now Maurizio Pollini has recorded all Nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin that were published during his lifetime. The Nocturnes demonstrate the diversity and difficulty of Chopin's art, and this recording highlights the refinement of Pollini's playing.

Pollini said that 'After I won the First Prize of the Chopin Composition in Warsaw, Chopin became an important part of my life' describing how he is able to play his music nowadays with more freedom than before. This release will be a milestone recording in the history of Chopin's Nocturnes.

* Duet to play on a single lute; Göran Söllscher plays both parts.

Göran Söllscher revives lute masterpieces from the Renaissance. This new project from Goran Söllscher is a follow-up to his previous CD, the highly successful 'Eleven-String Baroque'. With the balanced sound of Söllscher's eleven-string guitar combined with the Baroque repertoire, the album spoke to not only his fans but also a wider audience craving relaxing music and congenial guitar sounds. In this same spirit, Söllscher's Renaissance album will appeal to a wide audience including both his fans and new listeners in search of dreamy, soothing Renaissance melodies.

The stylish cover artwork emphasizes both the freshness and universality of Söllscher's art. The album contains Renaissance lute masterpieces by various composers from Italy, Spain, Germany, France and England, the most popular of which were written by John Dowland. Söllscher delivers a dozen of tracks by Dowland, a composer who embodies the 'golden age' of English lute music. Among them is one of the most sensual - and unusual - pieces for lute, 'My Lord Chamberlain his Galliard', which is performed by two players on a single instrument.

Other composers on this album include 'Il divino' Francesco da Milano, German lute composer Arnolt Schlick, Alonso Mudarra, Luys Milán, and Luys de Narváez from Spain.

Sinfonia melodica for 2 Oboes, Strings and Basso Continuo in C, TWV 50:2

Sinfonia Melodica explores the beauty of little-known instrumental pieces by Georg Philipp Telemann, including two world-premiere recordings of a reconstructed violin concerto and an overture for violin, oboes and strings.

Telemann, the long-neglected contemporary of Bach and Handel, wrote dramatic compositions integrating different national styles from his era. His music has developed a strong following among classical music lovers.

Formed in 1995 by members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berliner Barock Solisten has become one of Europe's leading specialized baroque ensembles. They tour regularly with soloists such as Christine Schäfer, Emmanuel Pahud, Andreas Staier, and Thomas Quasthoff, with whom they have also collaborated on his recent Bach Cantatas album on Deutsche Grammophon.

On Sinfonia Melodica, the Berliner Barock Solisten are also joined by exceptional oboist Albrecht Mayer, whose beautiful playing is featured in a concerto for oboe and strings as well as in the title piece.

The Berliner Barock Solisten combine their excellent period orchestra knowledge with sensitive playing on modernized instruments, resulting in a warm and rich sound.

In devoting themselves to the unknown yet captivating compositions of Telemann, this collection goes straight to the ears and heart of every Baroque enthusiast.

MOZART : Mass in C minor, K 427
HAYDN : Berenice, che fai? (Scena di Berenice), Hob XXIVa:10
BEETHOVEN : Ah perfido!, Op. 65

After their hugely successful reading of Gluck's neglected opera Paride ed Elena, Paul McCreesh and his Gabrieli Consort & Players again turn their attention to sacred choral music and join in Deutsche Grammophon's celebration of Mozart year 2006 with a new recording of Mozart's Mass in C minor.

To further explore the full spectrum of dramatic soprano singing, McCreesh combines the mass with two dramatic scenes for soprano and orchestra by Haydn and Beethoven; both settings, mini-operas in themselves, give voice to the rage of an abandoned woman.

The album, recorded in London in late 2004, followed a series of highly acclaimed concert performances of the same repertoire. The Times (London) was one of many publications to praise the ensemble's special rendering: 'McCreesh propels his period-instrument band and incisive choir with feverish energy. There's never a dull moment. Yet he also has the imagination and control to conjure up delectable oases of calm.'

BARTOK : Concerto for Orchestra
BARTOK : Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste

Live recordings of two of Bartók's masterpieces by one of his foremost champions

Ozawa conducts his Saito Kinen Orchestra - which he founded in 1984 in memory of his late music teacher at Tokyo's Toho School Of Music - Hideo Saito.

Béla Bartók music is characterized by defined but loose tonal centres, percussiveness (especially after a return to primitivism in the 1920s), dissonances, tone clusters, and classical forms (more and more so later). He makes use of Eastern European folk themes and rhythms. The later works become less acerbic and more approachable.

Like many of his contemporaries, Bartók wrote few original orchestral works outside the genres of concerto and ballet. The Concerto for Orchestra (Sz 116) is one of Bartok's last works, which he begun composing in the summer of 1943 at a sanatorium in the Adirondack Mountains.
