Product Microsite: www.deutschegrammophon.com/segovia-dedication ARTISTS TRACKLISTING Widely considered to be the father of the modern classical guitar movement, Spanish classical-guitarist Andrés Segovia did more than any other performer to popularise the guitar and establish its rightful place in the hierarchy of solo instruments. The present double-pack Dedication continues Deutsche Grammophon's exploration of the great guitarist's recorded heritage originally on the American Decca label. Previous Segovia sets rank among the most commercially successful catalogue projects of the last few years. This compilation is devoted to music written specially for Segovia (in some cases also dedicated to him) and ranges from well-known guitar music such as Heitor Villa-Lobos's Prelude No. 1 to delightful novelties including John W. Duarte's English Suite and Albert Harris's Variations on a Theme of Handel. The entire first CD features works by Manuel Ponce, whom Segovia considered to be the finest modern composer for the guitar. Just one listen to these interpretations makes clear why Segovia has been named 'the guitar's most powerful advocate' Gramophone Dedication includes many first-time CD releases, and the entire repertoire is appearing for the first time internationally on CD. |

ARTISTS TRACKLISTING This specially compiled 2 CD programme celebrates the rich Philips recording legacy of the outstanding Russian performer, Olga Borodina. This Russian mezzo-soprano has carved out a premier position amongst today's opera singers, with a constant round of appearances in the world's major theatres. Every note in her wide-ranging instrument has been honed to perfection and is set within a flawlessly balanced scale that matches evenly throughout. There is arguably no finer vocal instrument to be heard today and her complete success as the leading exponent of this type of voice today, the heir to such important Russian predecessors as Yevgeniya Zbruyeva and Zara Dolukhanova, is easy to understand. There is no finer exponent of the Russian vocal style at its most classical and concentrated than Olga Borodina. As she has said in interview, 'A mezzo-soprano is usually a woman with a tragic past, a tragic life, strong women, wilful women, and these roles have strengthened me as a character.' This disc explores Borodina's recordings of Russian opera and song as well as her recordings of Italian, French, Spanish and English repertory. Recording partners include Gergiev, Hvorostovsky, Gergieva, Haitink, Davis and Bychkov. |

ARTISTS TRACKLISTING Dmitri Hvorostovsky is one of the leading representatives of a generation of Russian singers who, unlike their immediate predecessors, have been able to establish themselves as international stars. It was his stunning win in 1989 in the BBC's Cardiff Singer of the World competition that really thrust him into the limelight. He even managed to push local hero (and an equally outstanding bass-baritone) Bryn Terfel into second place. His debut at London's Wigmore Hall and at New York's Alice Tully soon followed, as did, vitally, the beginning of a long relationship with Philips Classics in the shape of a recital of arias by Verdi and Tchaikovsky that set out clearly his strengths and two of the twin poles of his subsequent repertory. This 2CD retrospective celebrates Hvorostovsky's great recordings for Philips Classics. |
