Beady Belle, Norway's über talented Jazzland outfit return to bless music lovers with their latest sumptous stereophonic journey into 'future jazz' & song.
'Closer' couldn´t really be a better title. Closer to the essence, the group´s effortless melodic magic - and closer to the gift behind the remarkable and innovative Beady Belle.
One may wonder how is it possible that Beady Belle so easily manage to transcend musical genres, styles, borders and expectations without ever losing focus? Simple. The answer is a confident collection of songs - encompassing pulsating glitchy nordic electronics, lush landscapes of smoky jazz ballad, sensual eastern string arrangements, smooth nu-jazz workouts, poetic lyricism and yes, perhaps most noticeable...the proverbial cherry on top, Beate S. Lech´s adorable vocal performances.
Couple this with partner Marius Reksjø´s advanced funky musical backdrop, you then get Jazzland theory, Beady Belle in practice, and a new album to file under wow!
Closer , Beady Belle´s third outing, follows on from their well-received Jazzland debut 'Home' (2001), and follow up 'Cewbeagappic' (2003).
Over the past few years this dynamic duo have not suprisingly taken their unique sound and vibe far from their humble roots in Norway. From initial support and directives from Jazzland´s honcho Bugge Wesseltoft, to up and coming worldwide critical acclaim - a slow process of discovery, to now priority placement on Universal´s Jazz roster.
Thanks to solid touring (Beady Belle are indeed a true gem of a live future-jazz experience) and the fact that their melodies, attitude and delivery are such a fresh move in the universe formally known as Jazz/funk/soul, the band have almost created a genre unique to themselves, Beady Belle. Clubbers, jazz purists, and true lovers of music (not scenes) are all coming to terms with this latest addition to future jazz premier league. And loving it!
Recorded once more at Bugge´s Room, with the man himself appearing with guest 'rhodes', 'Closer' also features musicians from Beady Belle´s live setup; Jørn Øien on keyboards and Erik Holm on drums. It is rumoured that when Beate's mother heard the album for the first time, her initial comment was that the album was 'much closer than the previous one'.
This only confirmed Beady Belle's decision that the chosen album title was most certainly the right one.
'Closer' - yes, get closer and let Beady Belle take you to worlds unseen. Pop-tastic, Jazzland. 2005
