Opera Australia presents ALCINA
23 February - 30 March at The Sydney Opera House - Opera Theatre
Enter a world of illusion and reality, of lush beauty and eerie perfection. Is it all smoke and mirrors or real magic? Find out when Opera Australia presents a spectacular new production of Handel's Alcina.
Alcina, an enchantress, rules over her impossible island, making fantastic landscapes from the remnants of old love affairs. But when Alcina herself falls in love, the valiant Bradamante seizes her one chance to break the spell which has enslaved her lover Ruggiero.
Handel's music, especially for those unfamiliar with the direct and fresh sounds of a baroque orchestra, is a revelation. Each aria evolves from the purest of melodies into a dramatic tour de force, taking us on a journey straight to the heart.
