TRACK LISTING GERSHWIN: There's A Boat Dat's Leavin' Soon For New York Thomas Quasthoff presents his long-awaited jazz album, produced by German jazz star Till Brönner. Internationally acclaimed, three-time Grammy Award winner Thomas Quasthoff presents his first non-classical album - a collection of popular and lesser-known jazz standards, including beloved classics such as 'My Funny Valentine', all in new arrangements. While this is Quasthoff's first full-blown jazz album, the world of jazz is not new to him - he started to sing in jazz ensembles even before studying classical music, and this has remained a private passion of his ever since. Quasthoff's main collaborator in this project is German jazz trumpeter, singer and producer Till Brönner, Germany's most successful young jazz musician (his last two albums both reached top-20 positions in the pop charts). Brönner, a close friend of Thomas Quasthoff, has produced the album and is heard in some exceptional trumpet solos. The rest of the crew is a constellation of international jazz stars, including two-time Grammy Award winner Alan Broadbent (piano and arrangements, who has worked with Rod Stewart, Natalie Cole, Shirley Horn); Peter Erskine (drums, who has worked with Weather Report, Diana Krall, Carlos Santana); Chuck Loeb (guitar, who has worked with Bob James, Sten Getz, Bill Evans); and Dieter Ilg (double bass, who has worked with Rebekka Bakken, Vince Mendoza). A superb singer teams up with some of the world's best jazz musicians for an album that is clearly a matter of the heart for all those involved - this record will strongly appeal to the big crowd of fans of jazz music by artists like Diana Krall, Till Brönner and Madeleine Peyroux. |

Squall , formed in 2004 by French horn player/composer Stephen Morley , presents a formidable front line with trumpeter Warwick Alder (Bernie McGann Quartet, Ten Part Invention) and multi-instrumentalist Paul Cutlan (Australian Art Orchestra, MARA!). This versatile combination is ideally complemented by a dynamic rhythm section: Alister Spence , piano (Alister Spence Trio, Clarion Fracture Zone): bassist Steve Elphick (Mark Simmonds, Sandy Evans, James Greening); drummer Toby Hall (Mike Nock, The catholics).'Let us consider the French horn...It can display agility; but in jazz, until very recently, even very good players have sounded awkward playing syncopated running chromatic lines. Stephen Morley is outstanding in this regard, however, and he can use the instrument's quirks...in compelling free improvisation. '...This disc is much more than a display of mastery by Morley. The beautiful tone and sometimes quirky sounds of the horn are part of remarkable evocative and compositional whole... '...There are tracks, some freely improvised, in which texture, energy and powerful free momentum are the prime sources of feeling. But there are others too that are irresistibly melodic and rhythmic. '...Morley has chosen an outstanding ensemble of musicians renowned for their expressive power, flexibility and commitment to a wide span of music. 'A very complete, deeply satisfying disc.'
