'Right from the beginning of this disc you can hear why Decca has snapped her up... There's something very special about this young Dutch violinist.'
BBC Radio 3

'She seems to have it all: youth, statuesque beauty, an astounding technique, a delightfully lyrical 'voice' and a winning stage presence' ( The Times, London )

'Every so often you hear an artist that simply takes your breath away. She has all that it takes to make it as a recording artist; good looks, stage presence and personality. But most of all, she is a great artist. I am confident that Janine will become an internationally admired violinist and feel proud to work with her to build her career' (Peter Van der Heyden - Managing Director, Universal Classics and Jazz/Netherlands)

TRACKLISTING
VIVALDI: The Four Seasons

Dutch violin star Janine Jansen leads her specially selected group of soloists in a fresh look at the most loved of all classical works. One player per part in a performance of revelatory energy, transparency and clarity.

Vivaldi's Four Seasons returns to Amsterdam where it was first published.

Janine Jansen follows her first Decca album of violin favourites with this high-energy account of Vivaldi's four Violin concertos, known and loved as The Four Seasons.

What gives this recording its tremendous freshness and sparkle is Janine's use of just one player per part . Gone is the heavy orchestral sound which is so familiar - this is a Four Seasons which sparkles with new life and energy - like a freshly cleaned old painting revealed in its true colours.

Of course I thought long and hard about getting the right people to play in such a small group. I knew it had to be the right mix - and the result was a superb group of players. The recording work was very intense, but we all had a lot of fun together too
(Janine Jansen)

The players include Janine's brother Maarten Jansen on cello, and her father Jan on Harpsichord

It feels wonderful to do it in this way because it creates a wonderfully transparent sound, and it allows me to be very free (Janine Jansen)

The recording took place in Amsterdam in July 2004 in a hall and an accoustic which Janine Jansen knows well from her days as a student at the Conservatory of Utrecht

Some people were surprised at the choice - it's a big hall...but it's a wonderful, generous sound and I think it was perfect for what I was trying to do (Janine Jansen)
