"She commands an entire crowd with one stroke of her bow." (De Morgen, Belgium)

"Virtuoso fiddler Solomon is a musical alchemist." (Daily Telegraph, UK)

"There are few violinists with the bravura of Sophie Solomon. She plays violin like Eddy Van Halen on electric guitar." (De Volkskrant, Holland)

Virtuoso violinist Sophie Solomon, renowned for her pyrotechnic performances, makes her first solo album for Decca. She's real. She's got serious attitude and raw emotion and her violin playing knows no boundaries.

Poison Sweet Madeira sees Sophie reunited with Grammy & Brit-award winning producers Bacon & Quarmby to create a musical canvas of predominantly original compositions which bring echoes of distant worlds - of the fiery passion of gypsies, of wistful Russian waltzes and seductively exotic North African souks - through the prism of Sophie's youthful urban spirit.

Sophie is a founding-member of Oi Va Voi, three-times BBC World Music Award nominees who were hailed as 'one of the most exciting bands in Britain today' (Daily Telegraph, UK). Their debut album `Laughter Through Tears' was ranked in the Top Ten Albums of 2003 by the New York Times and topped the European World Music charts for 3 months running.

Sophie regularly collaborates with diverse producers and musicians, most recently with Rufus Wainwright on the critically-acclaimed Want Two. Her recent collaboration with hip-hop producer Socalled and clarinettist David Krakauer - Solomon & Socalled's HipHopKhasene - was awarded a prestigious German Record Critics' Award for Album of the Year 2004.

Together with several luminaries of the violin-world, including classical virtuoso Maxim Vengerov and jazz legend Chris Garrick, Sophie has the prestigious honour of sitting on the Artistic Advisory Board for London's Genius of the Violin Festival - the only festival in the world dedicated to the violin - held biennially in London.
