Earthsongs is Secret Garden's fifth studio album. Two years in the making, the album was recorded in a variety of studios in Norway and Ireland.

The lead track Always There is another Lovland/Graham partnership. Featuring the vocals of Russell Watson, the song shows every sign of being a fitting follow-up to the anthemic You Raise Me Up.

The album embraces a wide and varied collection of Norwegian and Irish musicians. Each of them brings their own respective musical influences characterised in such tracks as Daughters of Erin, Sleepsong and Fields of Fortune. Many will remember Saoirse who simply stunned audiences with her presence, beauty and musicianship.

A departure from the traditional Celtic/Nordic approach is Lotus - a stunning track that delights in oriental harmonies and complements the ethos of Secret Garden. It features the renowned Chinese erhu player Bian Liunian.

The final mix of the album was done by Hans Zimmer's sound technician, Alan Mayerson who has worked on numerous Hollywood scores including Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean andThe Last Samurai.

Secret Garden is Fionnuala Sherry & Rolf Løvland. Formed in 1994, they have achieved worldwide sales of 3.5 million and have toured the world extensively, enjoying great success in many continents especially Scandinavia, Asia and Australia, where they toured to huge acclaim in 2004 and are set to tour again in May 2005.

Both from countries rich in musical tradition, Secret Garden fuse their traditional Celtic/Nordic roots with a modern edge. Renowned for their energy as well as their luscious melodies, they produce music that both calms and stimulates.

Composed mainly for the violin, their lyrical themes are very much their trademark with is why so many develop into songs. Heartstrings is still remembered as Barbra Streisand's declaration of love to her husband on their wedding day. The song became   A Love Like Ours . Not wanting to break with tradition, Sometimes When it Rains , the opening track on Earthsongs reappears as Half a World Away towards the end of the album.

Rolf's unforgettable composition, You Raise Me Up (with lyrics by Brendan Graham) became the must-record single since its inclusion on Secret Garden's previous album, Once in a Red Moon. It has now been recorded by 64 artists and is the subject of a new television documentary.

TRACKLISTING
MASSENET :
Werther

Following the success of La Bohème, Tosca and Il Trovatore, Andrea Bocelli stars in Massenet's great tragic opera.

A new studio recording of the complete opera Werther by Jules Massenet is always going to be special, but when Andrea Bocelli sings the title role of Werther, it is very special indeed. Bocelli has sung Werther on stage several times to great critical acclaim (including as his USA stage debut) He is joined by r ising mezzo-soprano star Julia Gertseva who sings the role of his beloved Charlotte.

First performed in 1892, Massenet's opera is based on the 18th-century novel by the German writer Goethe which tells of the doomed love between the young Romantic poet Werther and the faithful Charlotte, who promised her dying mother that she would marry another man. Massenet's great gift was for deeply felt melody, and Werther contains some of his most beautiful and deeply felt music.

The title role of Werther is one of the most intense and dramatic tenor roles in all opera and a superb showcase for Andrea Bocelli. Ranging from the heights of joy to the depths of suicidal despair, Werther is swept along on waves of Romantic emotion until the searing drama of the final scene and his dramatic suicide and death in the arms of his beloved Charlotte.

If you are a fan of Massenet or of Bocelli you must hear this recording. These two talents combine to give the listener a wonderfully passionate performance of what opera is all about.

A Baroque Recital with Anne Sofie von Otter.

Following on from the success of Lamenti, which she recorded in 1997 with Reinhard Goebel and his musicians, Anne Sofie von Otter now takes us back to the very beginnings of Baroque vocal music, combining Italian pieces with others by the English masters Dowland and Purcell.

Monteverdi is one of the figures to whom she has returned again and again. Her first recording for Deutsche Grammophon's Archiv label, 20 years ago, was as the Messenger in L'Orfeo under the direction of John Eliot Gardiner. Listeners will not be surprised, therefore, to find Arnalta's deeply affecting lullaby 'Adagiati, Poppea' from Poppea among the three Monteverdi pieces included here. 'Monteverdi has this unique flair for harmonization that I love,' says Anne Sofie. 'It's sometimes tricky to sing, but he's one of the greatest composers in the whole history of music.'

'Some months before the recording sessions, we performed this programme in concert, something that seems to me essential if we're to have the time to explore the texts and music and really inhabit them. Apart from Monteverdi and Purcell, a lot of this repertoire was new to me,' explains the singer.

But what about the English Baroque? 'There's a world of difference between the songs of Caccini and Frescobaldi and the English airs of Dowland and Purcell. Jakob Lindberg has specialized in the lute and theorbo repertoire and accompanied many noted singers like Emma Kirkby. It was with him that I chose the pieces by Dowland. I remember hearing Dowland for the first time when I was 18. It was a choral arrangement of the song What if I never speed? I fell in love with it at once and sang it at my first auditions for a choir in Stockholm. I imagined I was a light soprano at that time, but singing this repertoire gave my voice a hard time and felt very uncomfortable. As a result, I was turned down by a chorus master who told me very politely to go away. That's how I started my musical career in Stockholm!'

'Much later, five years ago in fact, when I gave a recital with Jakob Lindberg at a festival of Baroque music in Sweden, we worked on 15 or so songs. We've included some of them in this recording - the ones that are musically the most interesting for me, most of them settings of magnificent poems. Because the sound of the lute is soft-grained, one has to adjust the voice and find an alternative balance.

Unlike Dowland, Purcell is a composer whose music I've lived with since the start of my career. He was and is a favourite of mine and I performed his songs both at competitions and at my earliest concerts.'

With a career spanning 45 years and over 130 million records sold to an adoring public and played in bedrooms around the world, Engelbert Humperdinck has without doubt earned the title 'the king of romance'. And his newest album - Let There Be Love - is all about romance.

When Engelbert Humperdinck sings Have You Ever Loved A Woman you know for sure he has - fiercely. You would never guess that this collection of songs are all new recordings, as it feels like they have all been written especially for him. Whether it's his elegant country style take on When You Say Nothing At All, or the sheer slinkiness of the standard It Had To Be You, it's all about love, love, love!

The new Decca recording features classics such as the title track (originally sung by Nat King Cole) to contemporary ballads first done by Ronan Keating and Bryan Adams. There are also three brand-new songs. he arrangements are jazzy, 'loungy' and in Engelbert's own words, 'If I hadn't recorded them before you almost can't believe why not!'

All of the songs, including another one of his personal favourites - Boz Scaggs' We're All Alone - sound as if you should be listening to them in a Vegas style theatre. They have elegance and understated passion that comes from a lifetime of loving to perform, loving romantic songs and loving women. It's a silkily seductive combination that takes its foundation in a life lived very much out loud, doing 140 concerts a year. 'Some artists might say it's exhausting. I say it's nothing, a spit in the ocean. Some of the tours I did were 81 nights in a row. I love my job, I love creating new arrangements, and I love the way this album has been arranged for me.'

Engelbert's music has transcended time and his honeyed mellow voice still continues to reach out to people now - serving to transport and inspire us, to embrace and uplift us, and to provoke feelings and emotion ... ingredients that are no doubt the essence of his long-lasting success.

Tranquillity 2 follows the phenomenal success of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra's 2002 release Tranquillity - the classical music of calm.

Tranquillity 2 draws together another diverse collection of pieces from across the spectrum of orchestral music of the baroque, classical, romantic and 20th-century periods. As with the previous collection, the calming properties of this music can be found not only in the pieces that evoke restful contemplation and reflection but also in music that is infused with joyous exuberance and celebration.

The ability of these pieces to positively affect our state of mind comes from the attention this music draws from us and the journey it invites us to take. The listener can be transported to another plane, through the soaring lyricism or profound simplicity of the melody, or the atmospheric other-world created by the composer's use of harmony and orchestration. This escape from the cares and stresses of the everyday instils a state of calm and a renewed perspective with which to face the world.

Let Tranquillity 2 take you on a journey of freedom and renewal.
