Blake
TRACK LISTING 1 Yo Te Voy A Amar (I'll Make Love To You) Album of the Year at the Classical Brits 2008. Blake are four incredibly talented young men who are bringing a fresh, innovative sound to bridge the gap between classical and pop music. Despite the gift of their classically trained voices, the group stumbled upon the unique sound of their harmonies when they began to sing impromptu at a house party. They had already met up via the social networking site Facebook, but had never sung together before; their powerful performance stunned guests. Even the quartet realized that, together, their voices have a rare and distinctly compelling sound. The foursome rehearsed together just once after the party before they decided to waste no time in approaching top manager Daniel Glatman, again finding him via Facebook. Daniel, manager of Blue and the Fron Male Voice Choir, saw their potential and secured them a record deal with Universal Music. Within months of meeting and forming, the group have already recorded their first, self-titled album, cleverly using striking harmonies around completely re-arranged classical, opera and pop tunes to take popular songs, old and new, to another level. Their name comes from a mutual appreciation of the great poet William Blake, whose peerless thirst for innovation is much admired amongst the group. 2007 was the 250th anniversary of the poet’s birth. The boys’ debut album ‘Blake’ immediately went to Number 1 in the UK Classical Album Chart and Top 20 in the UK pop album chart. The polished fusion of classical music and pop, incorporating beautiful versions of the Beach Boys’ ‘God Only Knows’, the Gladiator theme music and other classical songs; all recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra proved a hit with the British public. Within 3 weeks the album attained ‘Gold’ status in the UK, and has just won Album of the Year at the Classical Brits 2008. |

Will Martin
TRACK LISTING 1 Into the West At only twenty-three, Will Martin has already packed in a lifetime of paying dues. School musicals, playing piano in bars, waiting tables, corporate entertaining, singing in rock bands and on cruise liners to singing the New Zealand National Anthem in front of a sold out All Blacks crowd – Will has done it all. It has all been a lead up to this - “A New World,” his stunning debut album for Universal Classics and Jazz, is an epic collection of classical crossover songs. Recorded with a full orchestra, this selection of songs simultaneously reflects Will’s origins and the scope of his unfaltering ambition. “I am an entertainer, I sing, I can play the piano. I want to bring an entertainment factor to this kind of music because it has never really been done before.” A New World was recorded at London’s Air Studios during the spring and summer of 2007. The album was produced by Simon Franglen and features the Prague Philharmonia. “I think that people today seem to be craving a more sophisticated sound,” says Will. “While not all the songs are from traditional repertoire, they are all orchestral and classical in spirit. Take “Going Home” from Dvorak’s “New World Symphony.” It’s a beautiful piece of classical music, but it has been produced as though it was written this year. It has contemporary textures and rhythms, and includes Maori chants with my voice floating on top.” Well-known songs are also featured, including “Into the West” the theme song from “Lord of the Rings” (originally sung by Annie Lennox) and Ennio Morricone’s “Cinema Paradiso.” Both have been given an orchestral kick, and contrast with the subtle takes on Nat King Cole’s “Nature Boy” and Maori folk song “Hine e Hine.” Albinoni’s “Adagio,” sung with the All Angels, has never sounded so ‘of the moment.’ Will’s debut album is a testament to his belief in the emotion that classical music evokes in people, and the passion it inspires. This dedicated performer with a contagious enthusiasm for his craft intends to continue telling the beautifully emotive stories of the world’s greatest songwriters, whilst pushing the boundaries of the Classical Crossover genre. |
