For the first time EVER – themed André Rieu CD compilations! André’s Choice is a new series of compilations especially chosen by André. Eight titles, each containing 15 tracks, traverse a wide variety of subjects – moods (Happiness), nature (Seasons), occasions (Weddings), genres (Marches) as well as music familiar through the movies and music to accompany you while you cook. ANDRÉ RIEU | André’s Choice: André’s Marches ARTISTS Andre Rieu
TRACK LISTING España Cani Far from having militaristic or stentorian overtones, Marches are a lot of fun for André and this collection brings together some of his most oft-performed in concert. Though many of them have been composed by the Strauss family, they pay tribute to various parts of the world – Florence, Spain, Persia and Egypt, for instance. America blazes in with Stars and Stripes, The Washington Post and 76 shining trombones, and the proceedings are rounded off with a rousing Marche Militaire by Schubert. |

TRACK LISTING G’schichten aus dem Wienerwald Few things are as beautiful as the fall of an autumn leaf and the changing hues of a distant landscape. Nature and the seasons are beautifully captured in André’s Seasons, from the tales whispered by the Vienna Woods, to the beautiful spring blossoms from Japan (Sakura), and Ceylon (the Lakmé “Flower Duet”, forever entrenched in our minds thanks to its use in the British Airways commercials!). Roses get pride of place too! Birds flit across the landscape in the form of village swallows (Strauss) and gliding swans (Tchaikovsky and Saint-Saëns) to the mythical Australian ‘thorn bird’. No “seasons” anthology would be complete without Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, from which we here the quiet musings of Winter, and the CD is rounded off with a Christmas perennial – Winter Wonderland. |

TRACK LISTING Sphärenklänge (Music of the Spheres: waltz) Beginning with the most global of all waltzes – Johann Strauss’s Music of the Spheres, this CD is a snapshot of the many lands André’s music has taken him to, and to which he pays tribute. The Girl from Ipanema and Granada are two Latin perennials. Italiana is a medley of Respighi tunes, and La Montanara and Vieni sul mar pay further tribute to Italy. The French medley beginning with La Vie en rose brings three favourites from that land. Ketèlbey’s In a Persian Market is a tribute to the orient, complete with bazaar and colourful costumes. Far from home – a reworking of the central section of Dvorák’s symphony ‘From the New World’ introduces a sense of nostalgia and longing, as does the following track, Scarborough Fair, made all the more so by the beautiful voice of Mirusia weaving in and out of André’s violin. And there’s a tribute to André’s new adopted homeland, of course, with I Still Call Australia Home. |

TRACK LISTING Tara’s Theme (Gone with the Wind)
The movies opened up a whole new world for classical music and – like it or not – they put classical music on a pedestal that it mightn’t otherwise have enjoyed. Nothing wrong with that… a tender on-screen kiss, longing for one’s homeland, a character’s innermost feelings which neither words nor actions might reveal, or the sense of euphoria at the end of a film when you’re rooted in your seat and the end credits roll through. Fifteen films, every one of them hits, every one of them with an unforgettable piece of music are here included. |

TRACK LISTING My way Music has an amazing power to heal. It’s something André’s fans have brought home to him time and time again. It can lift our spirits when we’re sad or lonely, when we’re leaving something so precious to us behind (remember the scene in The Sound of Music when Captain Von Trapp mesmerises his family with his rendition of Edelweiss?) or, indeed, when we’re helpless at the loss of a dear one and no amount of physical comfort will do. It’s then that the spiritual power of music comes to the fore. Thus came about the idea for this CD, built, largely, from music that André’s fans have told him time again have helped mend and repair, comfort and guide. |

TRACK LISTING Second Waltz One of André’s favourite hobbies – in those rare spare moments! – is cooking. This album was put together because there’s nothing nicer than having some energetic music wafting around you and mingling in the air with the aromas of your culinary efforts. Morgenblätter (Morning Papers) is ideal as you think about your morning cup of coffee and your breakfast – it’s ritualistic, almost! Eljen a Magyar is bound to help you produce your best Goulash yet! Tea for Two is for tea for two, Wine, Woman and Song will help that glass of wine go down all the smoother (…if help is indeed needed!) and Funiculi Funicula will bring that extra vigour to your pasta tossing! |

TRACK LISTING Strauss & Co Ask an André Rieu fan the single feeling most engendered when he/she experiences his music and the majority will say – “It makes me happy”. And so with that in mind, André decided to put together an album that would bring sheer happiness to his listeners. And, indeed, music that brings him happiness. Night after night he performs the perennial Strauss waltz The Beautiful Blue Danube and it never fails to inspire him. Off to a rollicking start with Strauss & Co, we are reminded of our Wonderful World, are introduced to the beautiful Limburg district from whence André hails, we lie in green fields and watch the clouds pass by as we’re seduced by Greensleeves or the ‘Vilja-lied’ from Lehár’s The Merry Widow, and we finish with an exuberant shout of communal joy with the immortal ‘Hallelujah’ from Handel’s Messiah. |

TRACK LISTING Trumpet Voluntary A special occasion and the sound of André’s music go hand in hand. Or was that hand in heart…? And with that in mind, André went into the studio to record a special version of the Bernstein classic One Hand, One Heart for this album. Then realising he’d never recorded Mendlessohn’s Wedding March he decided to arrange and record that too, complete with choir. So there’s music with which to walk down the isle (Trumpet Voluntary – receiving its first CD release here!), music that floats down the balcony and through the aisle (Ave Maria, Air, Méditation and the ethereal Concerto pour une voix) as rings are exchanged. Music as one stares into the dark(?!) eyes of another and above all music to make that pledge of Friends for Life. |

We will keep you informed about release dates. The Cistercian Monks Of Stift Heiligenkreuz
TRACK LISTING 1 Traditional: Antiphon "In Paradisum" et Psalmus 121 (122)
Watch Short Clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12BKIJq3BoA&feature=user Watch EPK http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7Rh_DeQmZY&feature=user The Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz are delighted to release their debut album with Universal Music following an incredible few months in which they were signed to the music company after submitting their demo via a YouTube link. The monks subsequently recorded their unique sound with amazing speed and will release Chant: Music For Paradise on 5 July. Universal Music, the largest record company in the world who are better-known for promoting the music of Eminem and Amy Winehouse, launched their search for sacred singers in February through adverts placed in UK religious press. The adverts prompted an incredible response with over 100 entries pouring in from religious organisations around the world. On the closing day for entries Tom Lewis, A&R Manager of Universal Classics and Jazz (UCJ), received a YouTube link from the Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz, based in the Vienna woods in Austria. Mr Lewis was immediately bowled over by their sound, saying "They are, quite simply, the best Gregorian singers we have heard. They make a magical, evocative sound which is both immediately calming and deeply moving.” The Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz, who count both young and old among their number, reside in the oldest continually inhabited Cistercian monastery in the world, and put their selection down to divine intervention. They had been due to record an album last year but cancelled plans because of a prestigious visit to their monastery by Pope Benedict XVI. So when a friend in London spotted the advert on the closing date he encouraged them to hurriedly submit their entry via YouTube to ensure instant consideration. By Easter the record giant had signed the Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz, considering them to be the most accomplished singers of Gregorian Chant, and just a week later recording began. The monks were equally pleased to record their first ever commercial album, as originally planned, in order to bring their voice, and the spirit of their peaceful monastic existence, to a wider audience. Dating from the 7th century A.D., Gregorian Chant is the earliest form of music to be written down but, more importantly, to the monks it is their form of prayer. Gregorian Chant has recently been popularised by the Xbox game, Halo, driving demand for a 21st-Century recording of the ancient music and reaching out to a whole new generation who don't remember the mid-90s success of Enigma and the Benedictine Monks of Silos. UCJ Managing Director, Dickon Stainer, said of the initiative, "Our aim is to reach singers from outside the X-Factor generation and bring the spirit of the cloisters to the outside world.” |

Juan Diego Flórez, tenor
TRACK LISTING DONIZETTI: Amici miei, che allegro giorno (La figlia del reggimento) ‘… King of the Rossini tenors, King of the Donizetti tenors, King of the Bellini tenors’ The New York Sun Extract from the Bel canto CD booklet text: Fortunately for us, bel canto flourishes onstage today thanks in no small part to Juan Diego Flórez. For the past decade the Peruvian tenor has earned ecstatic critical and public response internationally for a technical prowess and an authoritative style that must surely equal what the public would have heard from the greatest tenors more than 150 years ago. Flórez’s exhilarating vocalism, matched by a magnetic stage presence, has prompted major opera companies to revive many rare works especially for him. An exclusive Decca artist, Flórez has reached a point in his career where he can invite eminent colleagues to record with him. This type of programme is fairly common in popular music, but seldom, if ever, with opera stars of similar magnitude. ‘I decided who I wanted to invite — they’re all friends of mine, and I’ve performed with all of them. I called them up and tried to persuade them. It wasn’t easy to work with everyone’s schedule, and I was lucky that they all could do it!’ This ‘Flórez and Friends’ programme of bel canto excerpts gives further proof of Flórez’s supremacy in this repertoire. This title will be featured in July’s Good Listening program on the Ovation channel. |

Lang Lang, piano
TRACK LISTING WENCHENG: Autumn Moon on a Calm Lake (Pinghu Qiuyue) As one of the highest-selling classical artists in the world today, Chinese pianist Lang Lang combines the qualities of pianistic poet and barnstormer all in one. His only Australian visit, some years ago, where he signed autographs after his performances, virtually caused a riot among his fans in Sydney, clambering over one another to get the famed pianist’s ink across their CDs. An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist, Lang Lang will pay a pivotal role this August as cultural ambassador of the Beijing Olympics and media coverage for him will be extensive. In addition, Addidas will launch a new shoe, named after him! Listening and watching Lang Lang perform, you cannot deny that he is something of a keyboard sportsman – tackling and sprinting with true athletic spirit. Lang Lang: Olympian of the Piano is a special compilation put together for the Australian market. It contains eight tracks never before released on CD as well as highlights from his Deutsche Grammophon catalogue. Included are two almost Debussian pieces with a touch impressionistic Orientalism, as well as two pieces that feature significantly in the film The Painted Veil (currently screening in Australian cinemas). Andrea Bocelli makes a special appearance on this CD in a song composed by the renowned David Foster. After the thrilling finale of the Tchaikovsky First Piano Concerto we are treated to three “encores” – the reflective Träumerei (‘Dreaming’) from Schumann’s Scenes of Childhood, the poetic Chopin Nocturne, and then, throwing his hat into the ring and casting caution to the winds, Lang Lang delivers a thrilling performance of the Vladimir Horowitz arrangement of Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, bringing this collection to a rip-roaring end. |
