Russell Watson 'The Voice" comes swinging back with his fifth solo album celebrating life and love. Russell Watson returns with That's Life, a selection of classic songs from the 1950s and 60s. From his original start as the working-class pub singer from Manchester who became 'the people's tenor' and best-selling classical crossover artist, this new album marks the broadening of Russell's repertoire and appeal. Russell recorded this album in Los Angeles at the legendary Capitol Studios using the best musicians in the USA. While That's Life contains all the richness of sound of the original songs, Russell sings newly arranged versions by the unparalleled arranger Jorge Calandrelli who has worked with the likes of Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion. 'A shining natural vocal talent.' Sunday Life 'the people's tenor.' The Times, London 'The man with the golden voice.' TV Times '...tenor who has taken classical music by storm by breaking all the rules' Evening Standard, London

ARTIST WEBSITE The undimmed popularity of all things Welsh continues with the release of the Fron Welsh Male Choir singing popular favourites The album soared to the pop charts upon release in the UK selling nearly half a million copies! Choir History In 1946 the people of Llangollen (which is 4 miles down the road) as a gesture to International Peace, decided to ask former enemies, to come together in the friendly competitive atmosphere of a traditional Welsh Eisteddfod. Invitations went out for 1947 and the Llangollen International, Musical Eisteddfod was born. Europe was in the grip of ruin. No one was sure if anyone would come. But they did come, and have been coming ever since. To compete in the Male Voice Competition at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod the Choir needed 60 voices so Wilfred Jones, the leader of the Froncysyllte Youth Club, persuaded the young men of the village to join. He was so successful that the 1947 Fron Choir had the youngest membership of any Welsh Male Voice Choir - a tradition of youth that has continued to this day. 2007 will be the 60th anniversary of the choir. |

Handel has been something of a talisman in the Australian market with recordings by David Hobson, Bryn Terfel and Kenneth McKellar, Yvonne Kenny, Joan Sutherland and Renée Fleming all being best-sellers. Given his unparalleled writing for the voice, be it in the early, florid Italianate works such as the firecracker of an aria from La Resurrezione (with Cecilia Bartoli) or the sizzling soprano/mezzo duet upon which Handel later based 'For unto us a child is born', to the quieter, pastoral Handel of 'Where e'er you Walk' (Kenneth McKellar's timeless recording) and 'He shall feed his flock' (in the supremely sublime interpretation of Arleen Augér and Anne Sofie von Otter), this compilation is the single most desirable collection of Handelian vocal gems. The styles range from the romantically-tinged voice of Joan Sutherland to the crisp, stylistically up-to-date interpretations of Emma Kirkby and Sara Macliver. Solo vocal gems are spiced with choruses from Messiah, Israel in Egypt and the Ode for the birthday of Queen Anne. The cast list is Who's Who of stars. And there are plenty of arias almost exclusively associated with particular voices - Teddy Tahu Rhodes in 'Why do the nations', Janet Baker in 'O, had I Jubal's lyre', Andreas Scholl in 'Ombra mai fu' and the little-known but utterly beautiful title track 'Angels ever bright and fair (Susan Gritton) . At nearly 160 minutes, this represents unbelievable value for money and the release will be heavily advertised on ABC-TV and receive much airplay on Classic FM. |
