Verve Records will release Phoebe Snow - Live, a new concert recording. This fresh collection showcases the legendary vocalist still singing with her trademark power and style. The set was recorded before an enthusiastic audience at The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY, in July of 2008.

Snow showcases a wide range of styles and vibes - from the bold and bluesy Something Real to the upbeat Natural Wonder to the impassioned ballad It’s All in the Game – throughout the recording. One of the album’s highlights is Snow’s You’re My Girl, a song originally written by the artist for her mother in the 1980s, but which now serves as a tribute to Snow’s beloved daughter, Valerie, who passed away in 2007 at the age of 31.

Other songs featured on Live in Woodstock include Shakey Ground, Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu, and the Rodgers & Hart gem With A Song In My Heart, as well as a show-stopping rendition of Piece of My Heart.

Anne-Sophie Mutter | Mendelssohn

ARTISTS

Anne-Sophie Mutter, violin
Gewandhaus Orchester Leipzig / Kurt Masur
André Previn, piano
Lynn Harrell, cello

TRACK LISTING

Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in E minor Op. 64
Mendelssohn: Piano Trio D minor Op. 49
Mendelssohn: Violin Sonata F major (1838)

Anne-Sophie Mutter presents a unique combined DVD/CD project produced at Mendelssohn’s home town of Leipzig and in Vienna to celebrate his 200th birth anniversary in 2009 (3 February).

The extremely popular Violin Concerto was recorded live in concert at the Gewandhaus under the direction of Kurt Masur, and the chamber music at the beautiful Brahms-Saal in the Vienna Musikverein.

The release will offer a state-of-the-art audio recording plus a separate full-length DVD that also includes a documentary, and comes in a Super Jewel Box Plus.

Over 25 years after her first recording of the Mendelssohn Concerto with Herbert von Karajan, Anne-Sophie Mutter has a fresh, stunning, (fast) new take on one of the most popular concertos in the violin repertoire.

Kurt Masur at her side is ideal, the most knowledgeable and experienced Mendelssohn interpreter alive. As the long-time chief conductor of Mendelssohn’s own orchestra (Gewandhaus 1835-1847) he stands for a great tradition and sound.

With the Piano Trio No. 1 and the Sonata Anne-Sophie Mutter has chosen masterpieces from Mendelssohn’s chamber music repertoire to broaden the picture. Here too she collaborates with long-term chamber music partners: André Previn and Lynn Harrell.

The digital bonus is the splendid „Spring Song“ arrangement by Fritz Kreisler.

The release of this priority album on 19 January 2009 ties in not only with the 200th Mendelssohn’s anniversary, but also with the Mendelssohn dates in New York, Montreal, San Francisco, and a European Mendelssohn Violin Concerto tour starting on 12 May 2009 with concerts in Norway, Austria, France, UK and Germany.

“...so transparent, light and radiant; the slow movement has seldom conveyed such intimacy, warmth and fervour” – Leipziger Volkszeitung, reviewing the Gewandhaus concert.

Soprano superstar Anna Netrebko steps away from the operatic stage to create her most personal and intimate album yet. For everyone who cannot live without “Meine Lippen, sie küssen so heiß” – new hits are on the way! Souvenirs is a gorgeous collection of short and sparkling pieces that allow Anna to display her amazing voice and temperament.

“This recording is like a bridal bouquet, bursting with variety and colours,” says Anna Netrebko. “I want it to create a wonderful array of emotions – passion, fun, love, tenderness.”

The album includes repertoire from all over the world: French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Latin, Czech, Yiddish, Spanish and – of course – Russian. These are pieces that are very close to Anna’s heart and include treasures by Dvo?ák, Grieg, Carlos Guastavino, Reynaldo Hahn, Offenbach, Richard Strauss, as well as rarely performed songs by Rimsky-Korsakov.

For this special project, Anna is accompanied by conductor Emmanuel Villaume and the Prague Philharmonia. Villaume is well-known as the director of the Spoleto Festival (USA) and is a regular guest at major opera houses such as the Teatro La Fenice and the Met. He has previously worked with Anna in concert and is a perfect match for her passionate artistry.

On this album Anna Netrebko has a few stunning guests to partner with her: El?na Garan?a for Offenbach's Barcarole, Andrew Swait for Andrew Lloyd Webber's “Pie Jesu” (Requiem), Piotr Beczala for Heuberger's “Im Chambre Séparée”.

Stunningly talented, gorgeous and intelligent, Netrebko already has the music world at her feet making this one of THE albums of 2008, eagerly awaited by her legions of fans as well as all music lovers worldwide.
