ARTISTS Wiener Philharmoniker Zubin Mehta
TRACK LISTING CD 1 Broadcast on TV and radio to over 40 countries around the world, the annual New Year's Concert in Vienna has been an exalted tradition for more than six decades. For the fifth year in a row, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing this concert of all concerts, again on CD and DVD. The Wiener Philharmoniker have invited Zubin Mehta to lead his fourth New Year's Concert, following his superb conducting in 1990, 1995 and 1998. Of course, following their sold-out tour of Australia in September 2006, the Vienna Philharmonic is now in ever greater prominence with the Australian public. Zubin Mehta too has been a regular and much-loved visitor to Australia. Once again, the program is a tasteful mixture of well-known classics and New Year´s Concert premieres, which include Joseph Strauss´s "Irenen"-Polka and the valse "Flattergeister" as well as Johann Strauss's "Einzugs-Galopp" The DVD release will include performances by the Wiener Staatsopern Ballet in a choreography of Christian Tichy, only visible on TV and DVD - as shown during the intermission of the live TV broadcast TV ONLINE RADIO |

Deutsche Grammophon and Decca to release all Mozart Operas performed at this year's Salzburg Festival - including the new Figaro starring Anna Netrebko. The Salzburg Festival - often described as the greatest and most important festival in the world - presents performances of opera, plays and concerts of the highest artistic standards. On the occasion of the Mozart Year 2006, all of Mozart's 22 operas, singspiels, and scenic fragments were staged between July 24 and August 31. In collaboration with Unitel, Deutsche Grammophon and Decca took up the challenge of recording all 22 works Mozart composed for the stage, making Mozart 22 a unique brand. Almost all works are in new productions, all with strong casts, and many new to the DVD catalogue (i.e. all DG titles except the Figaro) The 22 titles on 19 DVDs are all released separately whilst this Special Edition DVD-Box set includes all the works together. |

TRACK LISTING MONTEVERDI: L'Orfeo MONTEVERDI: L'Incoronazione di Poppea MONTEVERDI: Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria
Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducts Monteverdi's three surviving stage works, staged by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. The Zurich Monteverdi cycle conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt and staged by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle was hailed by both critics and audiences and performed at festivals all over Europe to greatest critical acclaim. Nearly three decades later, this Monteverdi cycle enjoys legendary status as one of the most compelling and comprehensive approaches - both musically and visually - to these early masterworks. Monteverdi's three surviving stage works shed light on the historic roots of opera as a musical genre - starting with Orfeo, composed only few years after the "invention" of opera itself and known ever since as opera's first masterpiece, and ending with L´Incoronazione di Poppea as one of opera's first character dramas. Despite the huge renaissance of Baroque opera on today's stages, the Harnoncourt/ Ponnelle Monteverdi cycle remains a benchmark - the cycle taps the emotional rawness of the stage works while respecting their historic dignity. Available both individually and as a box set - a must-have for every opera lover!

"Gruberova delivers her own wholly individual interpretation ... she translates Bellini's interplay of pain, love and desire into physically palpable inner and outer drama. Immensely moving." - Marilyn Horne talks about Rossini - Samson et Dalila: 'Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix' - The Ghosts of Versailles: Samira's Scene James Levine leads Marilyn Horne in L'Italiana in Algeri - Horne's only Isabella available on film and a first-time release on DVD. When Marilyn Horne performed the lead role of L'Italiana in Algeri in 1986, she was indisputably the Metropolitan Opera's reigning "Italian Girl" This DVD is also a memorable portrayal of veteran performer Paolo Montarsolo, who comes into his own in the hilarious "Pappataci" Trio in Act II "Levine conducts a suitably light and fleet performance ... Ponnelle's production is rich in high-spirited invention." The New York Times Includes bonus material - Marilyn Horne talks about Rossini and performs excerpts from Samson et Dalila ("Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix") and The Ghosts of Versailles (Samira's Scene) |
