ARTISTS Wiener Philharmoniker Zubin Mehta
TRACK LISTING CD 1 Broadcast on TV and radio to over 40 countries around the world, the annual New Year's Concert in Vienna has been an exalted tradition for more than six decades. For the fifth year in a row, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing this concert of all concerts, again on CD and DVD. The Wiener Philharmoniker have invited Zubin Mehta to lead his fourth New Year's Concert, following his superb conducting in 1990, 1995 and 1998. Of course, following their sold-out tour of Australia in September 2006, the Vienna Philharmonic is now in ever greater prominence with the Australian public. Zubin Mehta too has been a regular and much-loved visitor to Australia. Once again, the program is a tasteful mixture of well-known classics and New Year´s Concert premieres, which include Joseph Strauss´s "Irenen"-Polka and the valse "Flattergeister" as well as Johann Strauss's "Einzugs-Galopp". The DVD release will include performances by the Wiener Staatsopern Ballet in a choreography of Christian Tichy, only visible on TV and DVD - as shown during the intermission of the live TV broadcast. Elina Garanca, mezzo soprano Staatsopernchor Dresden
Staatskapelle Dresden Fabio Luisi
TRACK LISTING CHAPÍ: 'Al pensar en el dueño de mis amores' ( Las hijas del Zebedeo ) Rising mezzo Elina Garanca joins DG in style with an ambitious debut recording. Aria Cantilena is Elina Garanca's debut recording on Deutsche Grammophon, a portrait album showcasing the rich, creamy voice and exceptional versatility of one of today's hottest young singers. Music of various moods and styles, sung in four languages, all wrapped in a voice of milk and honey - this is the debut album of an extraordinary talent poised to become the next international superstar. Elina has selected some of her favourite arias and scenes from current and future stage roles - ranging from the coloratura tour-de-force of Rossini's Cenerentola to the sparkling wit of Offenbach's Grande-Duchesse to the emotional intensity of Charlotte's 'Letter Scene' from Massenet's Werther. The rich, lyrical finale from Strauss' Rosenkavalier is a special treat - Elina, who created a sensation as Octavian at the Vienna State Opera earlier this year, teams up with sopranos Diana Damrau and Adrianne Pieczonka for the luxurious trio. Of special importance to Elina is the Spanish repertoire represented here, including Villa-Lobos's haunting Aria Cantilena, a beautiful piece with high commercial potential. 'Something sensational . . . Her voice is a phenomenon of nature.' Opera World Marketing Highlights: TV Radio Online Press |
