*FIRST RELEASE ON CD

Alicia de Larrocha was, for long, an exclusive Decca artist, and besides making seminal recordings of Spanish repertoire, at which she excelled, she was also a Bach, Mozart, Schubert and Schumann player par excellence. She recorded Schumann's Carnaval twice for Decca and it's her earlier (1978) analogue version we release here. Together with Kreisleriana and the eighth Novelette - both recorded in 1971 - this is its first release on CD. This is Romantic piano music par excellence, complete with codes and ciphers from Robert to his beloved Clara, and Larrocha's playing has both tenderness and sweeping passion.

FIRST INTERNATIONAL CD RELEASE OF MEHTA'S COMPLETE DECCA SCHUMANN RECORDINGS

Zubin Mehta has had a long association with the Vienna Philharmonic, conducting them for his first ever recording for Decca (Bruckner's Ninth Symphony - Decca Eloquence 461 3572) and returning often to conduct them both in their home city and on tour. He conducts their 2007 New Year's Concert, for example. Collected here for the first time are his complete Decca recordings of Schumann - the four symphonies as well as two of the overtures, all played with immense verve and with a gloriously burnished sound from the Vienna Philharmonic.

WOLFGANG HOLZMAIR & IMOGEN COOPER'S COMPLETE SCHUMANN LIEDER RECORDING FOR PHILIPS.

"One of the great living partnerships in song" The Times (London)

"I was transfixed by the sheer artistry ... Rarely have I heard so sensitive, intelligent and gloriously musical a partnership." [...] "... no one could have asked for more attentive, detailed expressions nor more complete harmony of feeling between singer and pianist" The Independent (London)

"Singer and pianist work together almost by instinct in thinking themselves into the very heart of these songs ... Holzmair's plangent? very Viennese voice bespeaks the vulnerability that lies at the soul of Robert's Eusebius side? heard to mesmeric effect in the great? slower songs of Op 35? but he is just as capable of tramping the ways with Schumann when he is in his Florestan mood. ... [Imogen Cooper's] playing throughout the programme is at once supportive of her partner and individual in itself. The recording is faultless." Gramophone

Wolfgang Holzmair and Imogen Cooper's lieder partnership is the stuff of dreams and their traversal of the Schumann repertoire has won them international plaudits both, for performance as well as the sound engineering on these Philips recordings. Here, brought together for the first time as a collection, is their complete traversal of a vast selection of Robert Schumann's lieder, including all the cycles - the two sets of Liederkreis, the 'Kerner Lieder' and Dichterliebe. Included too are individual songs to poems by Heine and Rückert, as well as a selection of Myrthen. Two songs Rose, Meer und Sonne, Op. 37 No. 9 and Aus den östlichen Rosen, Op. 25 No. 25, only appeared previously as part of an Imogen Cooper anthology and are here included to well and truly complete the duo's Schumann survey.

"unlikely to be surpassed for a long time" Gramophone (Violin Concerto)

"Every orchestral thread gleams ...the cellist's most confidential whisper (and there are many) is never lost." Gramophone (Cello Concerto)

A unique collection, bringing together Schumann's Concertos and concertante works, including the first international release of Ingrid Haebler's recording of the Piano Concerto and Barenboim's of the Konzertstück for Four Horns. The unjustly neglected Concert Pieces, Opp. 92 and 134 are given glorious readings by Ashkenazy, and both the Cello and Violin Concertos receive admirable performances from Lynn Harrell and Joshua Bell, respectively.
