"Good Night, And Good Luck." takes place during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950's America. It chronicles the real-life conflict between television news man Edward R. Murrow (DAVID STRATHAIRN) and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the Permanent Sub-committee on Investigations (Government Operations Committee). With a desire to report the facts and enlighten the public, Murrow, and his dedicated staff - headed by his producer Fred Friendly (GEORGE CLOONEY) and Joe Wershba (ROBERT DOWNEY JR.) in the CBS newsroom - defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to examine the lies and scaremongering tactics perpetrated by McCarthy during his communist 'witch-hunts.' A very public feud develops when the Senator responds by accusing the anchor of being a communist. In this climate of fear and reprisal, the CBS crew carries on regardless and their tenacity eventually pays off when McCarthy is brought before the Senate and made powerless as his lies and bullying tactics are finally uncovered. Directed by George Clooney, who co-wrote the script with the film's producer Grant Heslov, "Good Night, And Good Luck." stars David Strathairn as Murrow, Clooney as Fred Friendly, Robert Downey, Jr. and Patricia Clarkson as Joe and Shirley Wershba, Frank Langella as Bill Paley, Ray Wise as Don Hollenbeck, Heslov as Don Hewitt, and Jeff Daniels as Sig Mickelson Good Night, And Good Luck. is shot entirely in black and white, with much of the mood and atmosphere created by the smoky jazz soundtrack and the gorgeous vocal talents of three-time GRAMMY® Award-winner Dianne Reeves. Clooney handpicked each of the songs featured in the movie , which Reeves, one of the preeminent jazz vocalists in the world today, also performs on screen. The soundtrack for Good Night, And Good Luck., much of which was recorded live on film, features an original song, "Who's Minding the Store" (co-written by Rosemary Clooney's long-time manager Allen Sviridoff, along with Matt Catingub, Earl Brown and Alana Bidenalong), with such classics as "Too Close for Comfort," "Straighten Up and Fly Right," "One for My Baby," and "How High the Moon." The CD, Reeves's first new recording since 2003, is available from Concord Records on September 27. Dianne Reeves' powerful storytelling instinct, her breathtaking gift of improvisation, and her unique blend of jazz and R&B stylings has captivated critics and audiences throughout the world. She was awarded the GRAMMY® for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for each of her last three recordings -- a GRAMMY® first in any category. www.diannereeves.com |

TRACKLISTING Focus Features presents Broken Flowers - a new film from acclaimed writer/director Jim Jarmusch (Coffee and Cigarettes, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai), opening on Decmber 26 in Australia. The Decca soundtrack features original music by Mulatu Astatke as well as an eclectic array of artists (Marvin Gaye, The Allman Brothers, The Greenhornes & BJM) chosen personally by Jim Jarmusch. Mulatu Astatke is one of Ethiopia's major musicians. In the late 1950s, he travelled to London, and later Boston and New York, absorbing jazz and Latin music, recording several LPs (one of which, 'Mulatu of Ethiopia', has become a legend among DJs in recent years), and eventually bringing both modern jazz and Latin influences and specific instruments back home to Addis Ababa. On piano, organ, vibes and percussion, with his arrangements and compositions, and as an agent provocateur, he became a pivotal figure in a great era of Ethiopian pop and jazz, from 1968 to 1974. To this day, he remains a ubiquitous presence in the Ethiopian music scene, as club owner, music school founder, radio DJ, composer, arranger and instrumentalist. Oscar® winner Bill Murray stars as Don Johnston. The resolutely single Don has just been dumped by his latest lover, Sherry (Julie Delpy). Don yet again resigns himself to being alone and left to his own devices. Instead, he is compelled to reflect on his past when he receives by mail a mysterious pink letter. It is from an anonymous former lover and informs him that he has a 19-year-old son who may now be looking for his father. Don is urged to investigate this "mystery" by his closest friend and neighbour, Winston (Jeffrey Wright), an amateur sleuth and family man. Hesitant to travel at all, Don nonetheless embarks on a cross-country trek in search of clues from four former flames (Frances Conroy, Jessica Lange, Sharon Stone, and Tilda Swinton). Unannounced visits to each of these unique women hold new surprises for Don as he haphazardly confronts both his past and, consequently, his present. http://brokenflowersmovie.com/home.html |
