It is Bernard Haitink's 80th birthday on 4 March 2009.
This collection is an overview of his recording career for Philips/Decca over 50 years.
The booklet essay has an overview of Haitink’s life, career and achievements by acclaimed writer, scholar and broadcaster Robert Layton, and the recordings feature the main orchestras Haitink has recorded and worked with during the past 50 years.
It includes symphonies and orchestral works by composers closely associated with Haitink, as well as Haitink’s first recording for Philips [Dvorák 7 in 1959].
