ARTISTS TRACKLISTING Listen to the variety of sounds and styles of a master tango violinist. 'I wanted to pay homage to the sound of an era,' Javier says. 'I play tango since I was 16, it always came to me so easily in all styles, traditional or modern. I basically listened to rock and folklore, but tango was something that was inside of me. I was with the Colangelo Quintet for many years, with which I toured with numerous times, and one time we were preparing for a trip to Japan, we came together to rehearse, and among the songs was Mala Junta, which I did not know. The next day the song began playing persistently in my head, it entrapped me, I began to research and I found out that it was of De Caro and Laurenz. I obtained a cassette of Pugliese with a version of Mala Junta. Then I sought out the original version, I bought the album of De Caro, researched about the whole sextet from 1926 to 1928, and that was the first time I became truly passionate about tango, in the same way rock bands impassioned me before. It is like the first refinement within tango, they incorporated the influence of jazz from the '20s, of French music. And that was the beginning of this story. 'I began to record songs on the 4 track cassette recorder, the first I made was Mala Junta, taking the arrangement almost textual from the De Caro version, and I began to go back and forth, discovering the whole era. I was enthusiastic with the results and showed them to Gustavo Santaolalla, which he loved, and at once we decided to make an album to recreated those demos, but in a good recording studio. 'With Cristobal Repetto, who I met while I was playing with Daniel Melingo's group, 'Los Ramones del Tango,' I became research friends and we exchanged a lot of material. Which was great because we ended up recording together in his album much like in mine, where he is invited on one song, Aquellas Farras, which Gardel sang. In this epic homage, Cristobal would be like the singer of this orchestra.' |

ARTISTS TRACKLISTING After Cristóbal's European concert débuts in 2005, BBC Music Magazine wrote: 'Every once in a while, a new voice comes along that knocks you sideways. Cristóbal Repetto is the owner of just such a voice'. Famously described by one Uruguayan critic as sounding like he's 'swallowed a gramophone', this 25-year-old Argentinian's style really is like nobody else -- instantly recognisable and addictive. Fittingly, for one with such peculiar vocal chords, his debut album is as 'old school' as it gets, made up of vintage but little known tangos (and one thrilling 'rural milonga') from the late 1920s and early '30s. Repetto's stunning pipes are usually accompanied by three crisp acoustic guitars -- though on a couple of numbers, just one -- an accordion, and occasional bouts of the rustic 'violin corneta' popular during this period. Credit must go to producer Gustavo Santaolalla (of Bajofondo Tangoclub, with whom Repetto has guested) for keeping it simple, like a knowing masterchef confident in the quality of his ingredients. Utterly sublime." Special edition including live DVD Including bonus DVD of his magical concert performance at Café de la Danse in Paris in April 2005.The DVD contains all 17 tracks performed in the show, including a guest appearance by Gustavo Santaolalla who joined Cristóbal on stage for three songs on guitar/vocals. The concert is opened by a Stroh violin performance from Javier Casalla, playing '20 locos 20' from his self-titled album (477 5559) also released on edge music this month. www.deutschegrammophon.com/repetto-tangoalbum |

www.deutschegrammophon.com/eplayer/langlang-memory ARTISTS TRACKLISTING Following the astonishing success of his first DG recital disc Live at Carnegie Hall - a sensational album that has sold more than 115,000 copies worldwide on CD and DVD - Lang Lang releases his new studio recital album entitled Memory , a handpicked collection of music closely linked to his childhood. Memory reflects the Lang Lang's journey from child prodigy to international pianist in his own right, grouping works by Mozart, Chopin, and Schumann that shaped Lang Lang's experience as a budding musician in China. Selections range from Chopin's third Sonata (which has been in Lang Lang's performance repertoire for almost a decade) to Mozart's Piano Sonata in C Major, a piece that helped reinforce Lang Lang's will to become a professional pianist after being harshly dismissed from a classroom at the age of 9. For the Kinderszenen, Lang Lang taps into his rich talent as a storyteller, relying on his piano for a fresh and poetic rendering of this collection of Schumann's 'Scenes from Childhood'. The album comes with a standard bonus CD featuring the virtuosic Horowitz transcription of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 - a piece Lang Lang always dreamed of playing himself ever since watching Tom the Cat perform it in a Tom and Jerry cartoon. Memory is Lang Lang's most revealing album to date - an intimate musical journey with one of today's most exciting young pianists, full of dramatic and poetic moments that will inspire both new and committed Lang Lang fans alike. |
