In 2008, André Rieu’s DVD “Live in Australia”, recorded at his concerts in Melbourne, broke all records to become the biggest-selling music DVD in this market, regardless of genre. The frenzy generated in December was simply staggering. We’ve reached 20 x Platinum on this!

This year, the scene shifts to Sydney, and rush-released from his November concerts is the star-studded DVD to end all DVDs for Christmas. It features special guests Alan Jones (singing “I am Australian”) and a hilarious finale featuring Dame Edna Everage.

It also features Mirusia, the Australian singer who again managed to stop the show with her magnificent rendition of “Memory”, and The Three Tenors who joined voices for “La danza” and the evergreen favourite “Come back to Sorrento”. And a certain untamed bull who’s let loose on the audience…

Pinchgut Opera | CHARPENTIER: David and Jonathan

ARTISTS

Pinchgut Opera (Live Recording)
Featuring Anders J. Dahlin, Sara Macliver, Dean Robinson, Richard Anderson and many more

TRACK LISTING

CHARPENTIER: David and Jonathan

Chamber opera has a special magic: an intimacy and immediacy not found in the more elaborate productions of grand opera. The founders of Pinchgut Opera are a group of professional musicians, arts administrators and music lovers who discovered they shared a dream to build something different in the musical life of Sydney. Several previous performances have been recorded live for release on ABC Classics, garnering fabulous reviews as far afield as the BBC! Pinchgut performed Charpentier's David et Jonathas in 2008 on period instruments. This beautiful and engaging French Baroque opera brings to life the Biblical story of a friendship which surmounts political, religious and even family differences. Recorded live in performance at City Recital Hall Angel Place, Sydney.

VARIOUS ARTISTS | Classical Destinations – Series I

Classical Destinations introduces a new concept in travel and history on television, exploring Europe's most spectacular cities and landscapes while luxuriating in the great classical music composed within their precincts. Viewers will learn about the lives of the master musicians, the cities they lived in, and how their work reflects the very same surroundings we see today.

Vivaldi's Venice, the Salzburg of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the fjords of Norway evoked in music by Edvard Grieg, and the Vienna that waltzed to Johann Strauss...all have never looked - or sounded - better. The wonderful destinations included in the series include Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, St Petersburg, Venice, Tuscany, Bergen, Leipzig and Helsinki and many more.

Narrated by the celebrated British actor and music expert Simon Callow, Classical Destinations mixes documentary, music performance, real life soap-opera (and grand opera!), philosophy and tragic-comic whimsy in a moving visual tapestry combining stunning new High Definition images and an unforgettable Decca Records soundtrack which features the world's greatest orchestras and soloists. There is sublime music by Verdi, Vivaldi, Mozart, Grieg, Bach, Sibelius and many other composers.

Now this 13 episode TV series becomes available on a special Decca double-DVD release, as well as a 2CD set.
