Brazilian Badi Assad is a guitarist of great technical mastery and an artist with an unquenchable thirst for innovation. Over her short career she has attracted a growing legion of fans throughout the world and her solo performance at the Festival is set to be an exciting musical event.
Best known as guitarist, more recently Badi Assad has put her dynamic voice and incredible vocal sounds into the forefront of her music. This concert at Arts House, Meat Market features not only extraordinary guitar playing but also new exotic sounds. Singing in both English and her native Portuguese, Assad accompanies herself on guitar and by experimenting with that instrument and her electrifying vocals, she becomes a one-woman rhythm and percussion orchestra. Human beat box sounds including cheek pops, ululations, chest percussion and outer-limits shrieks are expertly blended with her guitar playing and the effect is mesmerising.
Badi Assad is sure to dazzle Festival goers with her musical virtuosity and showmanship. An eclectic mix of jazz, folk, pop, bossa nova and classical styles, this solo concert promises something special for all music lovers
