The art of PETER SCULTHORPE, a “living treasure” and one of Australia’s best known composers is the cause for this celebration.

The unmistakable ‘voice’ of Peter Sculthorpe is inspired by the history, music, folklore and most importantly landscape of Australia and he is best-known for compositions such as Kakadu and Earth Cry.

He is one of the modern icons of Australian music.

The DVD contains Peter Sculthorpe's Sydney Singing, a film originally made for SBS Television, plus a host of extra material including interviews, score excerpts and a Composer's Commentary.  Orchestrating his original at the request of SBS Youth Orchestra, Peter takes us on an aural and visual journey through Sydney over the course of a day.

From dawn over the harbour, to a lazy morning on Bondi Beach, a cultured afternoon at Circular Quay and the Opera House, to dusk at the El Alamein Fountain, the neon lights of Kings Cross, and then through the wee hours of the city's existence to sunrise over the harbour city once more.

The accompanying CD contains six beautiful Sculthorpe works including Cello Dreaming, Small Town and Kakadu.

Artists include the Tasmanian and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, The Queensland Orchestra and Peter Sculthorpe himself narrating Small Town.

PROKOFIEV: Romeo and Juliet

Following his awesome Spartacus on Decca DVD, ballet superstar Carlos Acosta dances one of the two ‘star-crossed lovers’ in Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy – presented in the classic Kenneth MacMillan choreography and beautifully staged by the Royal Ballet.

In this perennial favourite, Carlos Acosta dances alongside his regular partner, the Spanish ballerina, Tamara Rojo – a celebrated stage partnership which currently has no equal.  The drama of the doomed lovers is set against the ravishing sets and costumes designs of Nicholas Georgiadis.

This High Definition recording was filmed by the BBC, and formed their principal cultural broadcast for Christmas 2007.

‘Romeo & Juliet’ will be joined later in 2009 by the release of ‘Manon’,  another great MacMillan classic, in which Carlos Acosta will again be partnered by Tamara Rojo.

‘Romeo & Juliet’ and ‘Manon’ signal the beginning of a major collaboration with Carlos Acosta and The Royal Ballet, which is expected to continue in early 2009 with the filming of ‘La Bayadère’.

Filmed in High Definition Widescreen
