Nikolaus Harnoncourt leads the Wiener Philharmoniker in music by Mozart and Schubert.

The incomparable Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducts the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Wiener Philharmoniker in the Grosser Musikvereinssaal, Vienna.

Known throughout the world for his highly original approach to classical music, conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt reveres Mozart as 'the most romantic composer of all.'

He sheds light on Mozart and Schubert 'with a minute attention to details of articulation and phrasing and an exceptional feeling for instrumental colour. Time and again his ear for inner detail and his rethinking of textural balance bring revealing new shapes and emphases to the music... These readings attain an uncommon musical and intellectual penetration, challenging us to rethink our responses to the music.' ( Gramophone on Mozart 39-41)

'Mozart compels us to look into emotional depths and then afterward up to heaven.' (Nikolaus Harnoncourt)

Bonus: 'My Dream' - a film of Schubert's 'Great C major' Symphony

BEETHOVEN: The Piano Concertos

Symphony No. 8

All fived Beethoven Piano Concertos available together for the first time on DVD... part of Decca's Ashkenazy Celebration campaign in 2007.

Unique video of all five Beethoven Piano Concertos, played by a young Vladimir Ashkenazy at the height of his piano-playing career. Hardly any video footage exists commercially of Ashkenazy at the piano, which makes this set a must-have for fans and wider audiences alike.

Accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the great conductor Bernard Haitink, this was a first for television - the five Concertos had never been transmitted live previously.

As these are live concerts, the programmes also include several Beethoven overtures and the complete Symphony No.8. Filmed and transmitted live at London's iconic Royal Festival Hall - see the hall in all its old splendour for the final time, before it reopens later this year after a complete internal makeover.

DONIZETTI: Don Pasquale

Juan Diego Flórez in another of his great stage roles.

Following DVD releases of Il barbiere di Siviglia from Madrid and La Fille du régiment from Genoa, Decca continues the DVD series presenting Flórez in his great stage roles with this performance of Donizetti's irresistible comedy from Zurich Opera House.

Flórez has recently sung the role of Ernesto in new productions at both London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera, New York.

The title role of the irascible Don Pasquale is sung by the great Italian bass, Ruggero Raimondi (who famously played Mozart's Don Giovanni in Joseph Losey's classic 1978 film).

A largely traditional but creative, fun production of a classic.

Extras include trailer from Il barbiere di Siviglia and the trailer of 'Oh Mes Amis' from La Fille du Regiment.

VERDI: Aida

The high profile new production from La Scala, Milan, filmed before Roberto Alagna's sensational departure!

The operatic event of 2006, following Roberto Alagna's exit from the production during the second performance.

Spectacular new production by veteran director/designer Franco Zeffirelli has all the luxury, theatricality and opulence one could wish for in this grandest of operas, keeping to tradition and shying away from minimalist modern intrepretation.

French tenor Roberto Alagna was filmed in early performances before his high-profile departure from the production. This alone makes it a must-have DVD for all opera fans.

Lithuanian soprano Violeta Urmana sings the title role and the powerful Hungarian mezzo Ildiko Komlosi is her rival, Princess Amneris. Riccardo Chailly conducts a top cast at La Scala, 'the home of opera'.
