Often cited as among the finest female vocalists in rock music, Linda Thompson first achieved renown as one half of the British husband/wife duo Richard & Linda Thompson who were responsible for a series of acclaimed albums from 1974 until their personal and professional separation in 1982. A wide-ranging, confident work, Linda's latest solo release is 'Versatile Heart'. The music draws from the sort of classic folk-rock that Thompson helped invent, namely traditional British Isles balladry, rockabilly, and contemporary art song. Linda Thompson's previous album, 'Fashionably Late' (Rounder Records 2002), was her first new release since her 1985 solo debut 'One Clear Moment'. Shortly after the release of 'One Clear Moment', Thompson was diagnosed with hysterical dysphonia and did not sing publicly again until 1999. The release of 'Versatile Heart' marks the first time Linda Thompson has taken less than seventeen years to follow-up a solo album! Guest artists include her children Teddy and Kamila, Antony (of Antony and the Johnsons fame), Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy, Martha Wainwright, John Doyle, and legendary British accordion player John Kirkpatrick. The songs include seven original or co-written songs from Linda, along with compositions from Rufus Wainwright, Tom Waits, and Kamila Thompson.
