TRACK LISTING HANDEL: Ah! mio cor! ( Alcina ) Ombra mai fù ( Serse )
Following her best-selling album Lamento, Magdalena Kozená returns to her musical home ground - the world of dramatic Baroque singing - with her first Handel arias album. ARTISTS Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela
TRACK LISTING MAHLER: Symphony no. 5 Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela set off orchestral fireworks with a rousing Mahler 5. Gustavo Dudamel, 'quite simply the hottest new conductor for a generation' ( The Observer ), presents his highly anticipated second album on Deutsche Grammophon. Again with the forces of the SBYOV, the disc features another symphonic masterpiece - Mahler's captivating Symphony No. 5. Gustavo Dudamel's debut album with Beethoven's Symphonies Nos. 5 and 7 caused a celebration in the music world and received ravishing reviews: 'This is model music-making . . . every phrase is played with an exciting, deeply internalized sense of ownership that adult orchestras would do well to emulate.' ( Philadelphia Inquirer ) With its energetic outbursts, expressive cantilenas and constant changes of mood, Mahler's Symphony No. 5 is the ideal repertoire for showcasing the forces of the SBYOV and its conductor. Dudamel and the orchestra caused a sensation on their 2006 tour of Italy when Abbado, who was announced to conduct the symphony, handed the baton over to Dudamel at the last minute. Even in Abbado's home country, Gustavo and his orchestra pulled off a Mahler 5 that brought the euphoric audience to their feet. 'Critics have called the Venezuelan phenomenon Gustavo Dudamel one of the most talented young conductors in the world - and they are absolutely right.' The New York Times |

ARTISTS Anne Sofie von Otter, mezzo-soprano Bengt Forsberg, piano · Bebe Risenfors, accordion
Gerold Huber, piano Bebe Risenfors, double bass ? guitar Ib Hausmann, clarinet · Philip Dukes, viola · Josephine Knight, violoncello Daniel Hope, violin
TRACK LISTING WEBER: Ich wandre durch Theresienstadt Anne Sofie von Otter sings music from Theresienstadt. This Swedish mezzo-soprano is known as one of the most versatile stars of her generation. She is always in search of new musical challenges, whether with the songs of Cécile Chaminade or of Benny Andersson. Here von Otter has chosen a project with a serious and historically significant background. She interprets pieces written in the Theresienstadt concentration camp by a group of Jewish composers who were imprisoned there and yet managed to foster a rich cultural life even under the most extreme conditions. All of these composers were later murdered in Auschwitz. On this album, Anne Sofie von Otter is joined by one of the greatest lieder singers of today, Christian Gerhaher, and their longtime pianists Bengt Forsberg and Gerold Huber, respectively. Together they present songs by Viktor Ullmann, Hans Krása et al, and so-called cabaret songs. DG's newly signed violinist Daniel Hope contributes the Sonata for Solo Violin by Erwin Schulhoff. |

TRACK LISTING BEETHOVEN: Piano Sonata No.28, Op. 101 Piano Sonata No.29, Op. 106 'Hammerklavier'
Mitsuko Uchida follows her acclaimed first disc of Beethoven Sonatas with the Hammerklavier Sonata - considered to be Beethoven's most complex and challenging piano composition. The coupling is the utterly sublime A major Sonata Op. 101 - a complete contrast to the heaven-storming Op. 106. Mitsuko Uchida is known for her intense musical connection with the works of Mozart and Schubert. In recent years she has turned her attention to a searching exploration of the works of Beethoven, and her first disc of Beethoven sonatas (2006) received critical acclaim: '...the despair and sublimity of both this music and Uchida's performance are really beyond words.' The Times, London (on performance of Beethoven Sonatas) 'Uchida combines incandescent clarity and endless reserves of power and speed with a searching intelligence.' Chicago Sun Times A key work of the repertory from 'One of today's great pianists' The Times |

Mr. Pirgu can sing, boasting a beautiful lyric voice, somewhat reminiscent - if I may reach back - of Tito Schipa. If he keeps that voice in shape, the sky´s the limit for him. (Jay Nordlinger, The New York Sun) It is the type of story that is very rare but actually does happen sometimes. A young man from nowhere appears on the international stage and that signals the very promising beginning of an international career. Now all that has changed. Saimir Pirgu has already sung in Bolzano, Reggio Emilia, Ferrara, Bologna, Pesaro and Rome, London, Madrid, Bilbao and Valencia, Zurich, Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Munich, as well as the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival. And more important engagements are coming up.
