MONTSERRAT CABALLÉ | French Opera Arias
Monserrat Caballé, soprano
TRACK LISTING GOUNOD: Il était un roi de Thulé ? Ah! Je ris de me voir sì belle en ce miroir ( Faust ) Few singers rose more rapidly to worldwide fame during the 1960s than soprano Montserrat Caballé. Within a few years she added fresh lustre to the glory of Spanish vocal artistry. French critics have called her 'La Superba', not without reason. The lyric qualities of her voice and its essential beauty predestined her for the French opera tradition. Here, on a rare CD release, is her only solo LP recorded for Deutsche Grammophon. What a fabulous voice! Caballé is in her prime in an original programme of gorgeously ripe scenes and arias from Romantic French operas that sometimes sound like Wagner in their longing and intensity. The reissue comes with an added bonus track - with Plácido Domingo, she sings the duet from Puccini's Manon Lescaut , 'Tu, tu, amore, tu', live - a fantastic performance that gets a huge roar of approval from the audience. This item comes from the Rudolf Bing Gala concert at the Met in New York in 1972 |

Plácido Domingo, tenor
TRACK LISTING LARA: Granada Domingo's original 'crossover' LP, re-presented as it was originally, complete with artist interview in the package and including an alternative cover on the inside! There are two famous Mario Lanza numbers ( Be My Love and Because ), and among the 'new' repertoire is the German Ich schenke dir eine neue Welt , tipped at the time as a hit. Dein ist mein ganzes Herz - You are my heart's delight - that is Domingo's declaration of love to music. He hopes his listeners will feel the same. |
