Hayley Westenra's new album ODYSSEY was always going to be a different proposition to PURE, the record-breaking 2003 collection which marked her international debut. A lot has happened to the young New Zealander over the past two or three years - and those changes are clearly reflected by a record which encapsulates her growth from a budding teenage prodigy into a mature young woman.

PURE, made when Hayley was 15, introduced the world to a unique new voice. Poised, angelic and characterised by its breathtaking natural beauty, her voice won the hearts of millions and enabled PURE to reach some notable landmarks. The album, which has sold two million copies to date, topped the UK classical charts and also went Top Ten in the pop equivalent. In her homeland, it is the biggest-selling New Zealand album of all time. In Japan - where Hayley enjoyed a No. 1 single with Amazing Grace - she was the most popular classical artist of 2004 and won two Japanese Grammies.

For the young songbird, such success was life-transforming. From being a schoolgirl living at home with her parents and siblings in Christchurch, she was suddenly thrust onto the global stage. She performed in front of presidents, prime ministers and royalty. She duetted with Andrea Bocelli, José Carreras, Bryn Terfel and Russell Watson. She also sung live at many prestigious sporting events in the UK, USA, New Zealand and Australia.

Now, at 18, Hayley is ready to show the world how much she has grown up, both as an artist and as an individual. Fans of PURE will be pleasantly surprised by her new album ODYSSEY. Her wonderful voice retains its crystal-clear purity, but Westenra's singing is now richer and more rounded than before. Touring the world and singing in some of its greatest concert venues, such as the Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall, has worked wonders for her confidence. Suitably emboldened, she has embraced an even wider range of musical styles including classical, hymns, folk and pop.

ODYSSEY is Hayley's second international release. It is also, remarkably, her fifth collection overall. Having first been told that she had perfect pitch when she starred in a school play at six, the singer spent her childhood immersing herself in music and theatre. She studied violin, piano and ballet and had appeared in 40 amateur stage musicals in Christchurch by the time she was 11.

The New Voice of Romance

Patrizio Buanne is a young and hip Italian singer. He has a rich baritone voice and sings traditional Italian romantic love songs and 1950s/60s Italian standards. He's performed for the (former) Pope. His album, released in the UK, has surged to No.10 in the Pop Charts and has been in the Top Thirty since release in February.

Inspired by the singers of yesteryear, Patrizio harks back to a time when a man would not dream of singing onstage in anything less than a suit, shoes polished, clean-shaven, hair neatly brushed, with a dab of cologne behind the ears.

Patrizio is only 26 years old - and hopelessly devoted to his art - romantic crooning. Raised in Naples, Patrizio moved to Vienna at the age of six .

The Italian was recorded at London's world-famous Abbey Road studios with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. 'The Italian', an album mixing traditional Neapolitan romance and singing tradition with Italian standards from the Fifties and Sixties - songs barely known outside Italy but destined to become favourites for a new generation.

To listen to Patrizio is to immerse yourself in the soundtrack of a world familiar from film and television - from Federico Fellini, Sophia Loren and Gina Lollabrigida to The Godfather, Goodfellas and The Sopranos. 'My music is as Italian as pasta in an Italian kitchen,' says Patrizio. These songs are timeless classics. To me, crooning is more than a way of singing, it's a way of life ! And I want to share that with a new audience.'

The Italian recently charted at #10 in the UK pop charts and has been it's the Top Thirty since its release there in February.

With the smooth sounds of the Fifties and Sixties coming back into fashion it seems that Patrizio is in the right place at the right time.

Style, sophistication, elegance... Where can we find that old-school cool in our consumer culture of instantly disposable celebrity? Time to meet Patrizio Buanne. Tall, dark and handsome, perfectly groomed and impeccably dressed, the clean-cut Italian with the rich baritone voice is an enigma.

Inspired by the singers of yesteryear, Patrizio harks back to a time when a man would not dream of singing onstage in anything less than a suit, shoes polished, clean-shaven, hair neatly brushed, with a dab of cologne behind the ears.

A brilliant six-part series screening on ABC-TV telling the story of Broadway and hosted by JULIE ANDREWS as from Sunday 14 August at 7:30pm for six weeks.

A Hundred Years Of History * A Cast Of Thousands * A Hit Parade Of Songs

'There's no place in the world like Broadway - it's where the American dream is realized eight times a week ... it embodies the optimistic heartbeat of American culture' Michael Kantor, Producer, Broadway: The American Musical

Broadway: The American Musical is a landmark six-part PBS series, hosted by Tony Award-winning and Academy Award-winning actress Julie Andrews. The series brings alive the epic story of musical theatre and its inextricable link to 20th-century American life. The series features a who's who of Broadway luminaries, including Mel Brooks, Carol Channing, Betty Comden, Joel Grey, Kitty Carlisle Hart, John Lahr, Arthur Laurents, Harold Prince, Stephen Sondheim, Tommy Tune, Ben Vereen and George C. Wolfe.

The series was produced by Michael Kantor, who recently created Quincy Jones: In the Pocket for the American Masters series, and who has worked on PBS long-form series such as Ken Burns' The West and Ric Burns' New York: A Documentary Film.

Broadway: The American Musical tells two stories: the 100-year history of musical theatre, and the story of its relationship to 20th-century American life. Producer Michael Kantor's chronological approach begins with the immigrant experience at the turn of the century, when a melting pot of voices and styles gave rise to a popular new form of entertainment. The series ends with today's Broadway, where big budget new productions and revivals of classic favourites compete side by side for box office success.

Peppered throughout are legendary moments in Broadway history: George Gershwin's sojourn to Folly Island, where he began to compose his legendary score for Porgy and Bess; the thrill of Oklahoma's opening night; and comedienne Fanny Brice's heart-grabbing performance of 'My Man'. From the titillating yet artful spectacle of The Ziegfeld Follies to Ethel Merman's brassy rendition of 'I've Got Rhythm,' and from Julie Taymor's visionary staging of The Lion King to a behind-the-scenes look at Wicked's opening night, the series enlightens, educates and offers unique insight into this truly American art form.

Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85
Sea Pictures, Op. 37
Prelude from 'The Kingdom', Op. 51

Wistful - sublime - noble. The Cello Concerto of Edward Elgar is one of the most openly emotional of his works, and the final piece of orchestral music he ever wrote. Performed by the incomparable Li-Wei and accompanied by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Nicholas Braithwaite, this recording sings of unequivocal heartbreak. Also featured is the song cycle Sea Pictures for mezzo-soprano and orchestra, which evokes the beauty and the excitement of the sea; along with the Prelude from The Kingdom, an oratorio of great lyrical splendour.

26 Good-bye, Dolly Gray (1898)

A double CD of songs from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century expounding the influence of patriotism and the British Empire on popular song. As with much of the musical output from earlier and later wars, the sentiments expressed in the songs do not usually reflect the realities of the war, but give a sanitised picture with an often-sentimentalised view of hardship and loss. This recording features the powerful voice of Michael Halliwell with the incomparable David Miller at the piano.
