‘An astonishing vocal talent... the unfussed new Queen of Canadiana’ Daily Telegraph

‘Kathleen Edwards writes and sings with a trailer park toughness that sounds like she measures her days in cigarettes, cheap booze and fickle men. 2003 debut, "Failer", earned heaps of praise, plus support slots with Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. Back To Me impressively reconfirmed why she is alt-country's brightest rising star.’ Q

‘Asking for Flowers’ is Kathleen's third album with Rounder. It was recorded in 2007, mainly at Plyrz Studio in Los Angeles. The album was co-produced by Edwards and Jim Scott (Whiskeytown), and features, among others, keyboardist Benmont Tench from The Heartbreakers, drummer Don Heffington (Bob Dylan, The Wallflowers), bassist Bob Glaub (Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, Leonard Cohen), guitarist Colin Cripps (Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams), and pedal steel ace Greg Leisz (Sheryl Crow, Wilco, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss). Whilst retaining the unique Kathleen sound, the album has a more developed production feel in keeping with Kathleen's growth as an artist.

Kathleen Edwards emerged from Ottawa in 2003 with her first critically acclaimed album ‘Failer’ which propelled her to the heart of the US alt country rock scene. Comparisons to Lucinda Williams are the closest musical reference that came from the media. There is a husky bite to otherwise pure vocals which is her signature sound along with lyrics that hold no punches.
Subsequently, a live EP and her second album ‘Back to Me’ continued to develop her profile and she toured hard and garnered a lot of respect from the musical generation such as the likes of Willie Nelson and Dylan. Kathleen carries an old Gibson but started as a classically trained violin player. Adding to her musical talents she spent some time in 2007 off the road, mastering the piano.

Kathleen made several trips over to mainly Northern Europe and predominantly to Ireland, UK and Holland although she has visited Scandinavia, again building an organic touring reputation. She again gained her press stripes with a feature in the Telegraph paper launching her last album and front cover features in Maverick. A favourite with Bob Harris at Radio 2, but equally she was embraced by the student community. Her strength in performance works equally with a duo acoustic set or with her band and her witty commentary engages and riles her audiences.
